  2. Journal Parameters • Collection of personal, exploratory writings • Can be any length: 1 sentence several pages • Informal and experimental • For your eyes only (and mine, later)

  3. Journal Entries • How many? – 14 to 18 • Vary your entry style • Freewrite – React to the literary piece • Pose a series of interesting questions • Discuss language – parody the style of writing • Predict action • Discuss social significance • Author manipulation – word deliberance

  4. Benefits • Free from constraints of formal writings • Explore issues of concern to you which arise from reading • Use as a sourcebook of ideas for your paper

  5. Journal Assignment • Using MLA format, keep a journal of the literary work you have chosen to read. • Divide your reading into 14 to 18 sections and read 1 section each day. • Respond/react to your reading each day using the entry styles given as a guide. • You are required to complete at least 14 typed, D/S entries.

  6. Journal Due Dates • First 3 entries are due on December 5th. • Next 5 entries are due on December 12th. • The completed journal is due before winter break on December 19th. • If you know you will not be in class that day, please make sure the journal is handed by that date. • Keep a copy of your work.
