Cass Tompich Blink of an Eye
>>> BLINK OF AN EYE • Have you ever wondered what heaven is like?
>>> What is heaven like? • …Thinking and talking about heaven is really thinking and talking about God.
>>> ‘Heaven’ is where God is; His home. • Jesus often used the phrase ‘my Father who is in heaven.’ [Matt 7:21; 10:32,33; 12:50; 16:7; 18:10,19] • He taught his followers to pray: ‘Our Father in heaven…’ [Matt 6:9] • As He taught his disciples, he often used the phrase, ‘your Father in heaven’. [Matt 5:16,45; 6:1; 7:11; 18:14]
>>> ‘Heaven’ is where God is; His home. • John 3:31 (NLT) He (Jesus) has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else.
>>> What is heaven like? • FUNNY PICS HERE*
>>> What is heaven like? • The brilliance of heaven is seeing Jesus face to face. • “The light ahead was growing stronger. Lucy saw that a great series of many-coloured cliffs led up in front of them like a giant’s staircase. And then she forgot everything else, because Aslan himself was coming, leaping down from cliff to cliff like a living cataract of power and beauty.” – Farewell to Shadowlands, The Chronicles of Narnia – by C.S Lewis.
>>> What is heaven like? • The brilliance of heaven is seeing Jesus face to face. • 1 John 3:2b (NLT) …when Christ appears…we will see him as he really is. • The brilliance of heaven is Jesus.
>>> Being in Jesus’ presence means: • That we will have perfect knowledge. • 1 Cor 13:12-13 (NLT) Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see things with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
>>> Being in Jesus’ presence means: • There will be no evil • Revelation 21:4 (NIV) • Revelation 20:10 (NIV)
>>> Being in Jesus’ presence means: • Great glory • “God’s glory is its light, the Lamb its lamp!” Revelation 20:23 (Msg).
The brilliance of heaven is Jesus… • …and because of Jesus we can be transformed.
1 Corinthians 15: 42-44 (Msg) …the corpse that is planted is no beauty, but when it’s raised, it’s glorious. Put it in the ground weak, it comes up powerful. The seed sown is natural; the seed grown is supernatural – same seed, same body but what a difference from when it goes down in physical mortality to when it is raised up in spiritual immortality.
If the brilliance of heaven is Jesus, the horror of hell is no Jesus (the absence of God.) • ‘Sin is a person saying to God throughout life, “Go away and leave me alone. Hell is God finally saying to that individual, “You may have your wish.” It is God’s leaving one to oneself, as he or she has chosen.’ - C.S Lewis
John 14:1-11a (NIV) “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; of it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” …
Jesus answered, “Don’t you know me Philip, even after I have been among you for such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me…”
