  2. Condensation • When water vapor turns into liquid water.

  3. Condensation • Remember the actual amount of water vapor in air remains the same unless we change it. • If air cools it has less space, making the relative humidity increase. • When the air reaches a relative humidity of 100% (saturated) the water vapor will turn into liquid water.

  4. Condensation • It is not possible to have air with a relative humidity of more then 100% • The liquid water droplets that form on objects are called DEW.

  6. Dew Point • The temperature that air must cool down to reach 100% relative humidity and where water vapor turns into liquid water is called the dew point.

  7. Dew Point • The dew point can never be higher then the air temperature – it hasn’t cooled enough for dew to form Or • The dew point can equal the air temperature – making dew

  8. Dew Point • When you reach the dew point condensation starts and water vapor is removed from the air. • If the temperature continues to drop the water vapor is reduces so the dew point drops with the temperature.

  9. Frost • When the dew point is below the freezing point of water the water vapor goes directly to a solid: • Forming Frost • The technical term is sublimation.
