Asexual Reproduction: The Process of Cloning in Living Organisms

Asexual reproduction is a method where living organisms produce identical offspring without genetic diversity. This process involves five types: Binary Fission, Spore Formation, Budding, Vegetative Propagation, and Regeneration. In binary fission, bacteria split into two equal organisms. Conjugation, a precursor to fission, involves DNA transfer. The offspring from fission are different from the original but identical to each other.

  1. Reproductiona process whereby living things produce more living things All living organisms need to do it!!

  2. Just one parent involved Offspring identical-no diversity Many microscopic organisms reproduce in this way Asexual Reproduction

  3. 5 types of asexual reproduction • 1) Binary Fission • 2) Spore Formation • 3) Budding • 4) Vegetative propogation • 5) Regeneration

  4. Binary fission *is the normal method of reproduction among bacteria. *It means splitting into 2 EQUAL new organisms.

  5. Conjugation may precede fission In conjugation, DNA passes from one bacterium to another through a bridge of cytoplasm. In fission, after conjugation, the offspring are different than the original parent BUT identical to each other.
