ABOUT NDC • National initiative to engage students in science and engineering through interactive activities and education during Hispanic Heritage Month • NAVSEA Noches de Ciencias to occur in October 2012 • Promote college awareness in a bilingual setting • Target audience are families/students in K-12
FORMAT • Suggested Itinerary:
REQUIREMENTS • Be held during the determined time period: • October 1, 2012 to October 31, 2012 • Host 100 K-12 students and families, more than 50% Hispanic representation • Conduct a GameDesk module
REQUIREMENTS • Distribute STEM Tool kit to parents during bilingual parent event • Display and recognize NAVSEA as funder of the Noche event, SHPE Jr. Chapter, TuFuturo Initiative • Host two college preparation/awareness workshops each in English and in Spanish for parents • (i.e. Total of 4 workshops)
REQUIREMENTS • Through the NAVSEA grant, SHPE Foundation will provide the activities, materials, and presentations • Host SHPE chapters will be responsible for the logistics and execution of the event • Failure to meet any of the listed requirements will result in not receiving the total requested funds
FUNDING • Student and professional SHPE chapters committing to host an NDC must submit a “Seed Money Proposal for Noche de Ciencias” to the SHPE Foundation by August 22, 2012. • (refer to the proposal for submission requirements)
FUNDING • $1,360 maximum will be provided (in two disbursements)to the SHPE chapter to cover costs for additional materials, copies, food, and NDC • Chapters have the option of seeking additional funding or donations from sources outside of SHPE • School of Engineering • Mathematics, Science, Technology Departments • Local Businesses
REPORT • The NDC Report is due to SHPE Foundation on or before November 9, 2012 • Detailed Summary including Budget and Receipts • Demographic Forms • Evaluation Forms • Photo Release Forms and Photographs
REPORT • All documented evidence of program evaluations and demographic forms must be scanned and submitted with the report • Failure to complete any portion of the report may prevent chapters from receiving the second disbursement and receiving future funding from SHPE Inc. or SHPE Foundation
