  1. Managing Information Overload by: Clara Johnson for: LI819XI

  2. Like most people, you love the Internet.

  3. But sometimes, love affairs turn sour.

  4. Does this scene look familiar to you? (That is, inside your head)

  5. You might be going through what is known as:

  6. …Information overload.

  7. This occurs whenever your mind has received too much information to perform at its best ability.

  8. Today, people are exposed to more information than ever.

  9. So, how can we manage this?

  10. Step one: Identify your activities. What takes up time and energy while you’re online?

  11. For example…

  12. School Assignments • Research • Email • Work obligations • Personal responsibilities • Social Networks • More email • Projects

  13. Step Two: Step back. Relax, already!

  14. If you want to perform at your best, you must learn to focus.

  15. Step Three: Prioritize your time.

  16. DON’T overwork yourself.

  17. Make sure you do at least onething outside of the work or school environment you enjoy each day.

  18. Step Four: Cultivate realistic expectations. The Internet is a big place, and no search is perfect!

  19. Step Five: Focus on quality over quantity.

  20. The more you try to do too many things at once, the more your end results will suffer.

  21. Step Six: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnect!

  22. Sometimes, the best way to clear your head is to take a walk.

  23. One step at a time!

  24. “I’m feeling better already!”

  25. I hope you do feel better about tackling the information you encounter. Here are some more resources on information overload you may find helpful: Three Keys to Beating Information Overload Recovering from Information Overload 10 Tips for Managing Information Overload Time Management: Tips to reduce stress and increase productivity

  26. Happy searching!
