Ak-47 Nathan -Ak stands for: Avtomat Kalashnikova or automatic Kalashnikov -Russian made and supplied assault rifle for the NVA and Vietcong forces. -Has a very distinct sound when fired making it easy to tell who was firing.
MiG-21 “Fishbed” by Connor -Supersonic jet fighter the North Vietnamese Air Force used -Bought from the Soviet Union -A match for our best fighter, the F-4 Phantom -Ground troops did not have to worry about it
Mauser Rifle by Connor -Made by Nazi Germany in the 1930’s -Captured by the Russians and sold to North Vietnam -Used by NVA and Vietcong -Americans weren’t very afraid of the Mauser it was very old and they were kind of rare
ZSUs BL Referred to as “Zeus,” anti-aircraft weapon -Lightly armored -Guided by radar -Russian made
RPG-7 JJ • Shoulder launched, anti tank rocket propelled grenade launcher • Used by Vietnam people’s army and the Vietcong • Used for mostly short ranges and also long ranges (500 meters) • Hard to defend against because it can kill in groups • Can be used to attack land and the air
Simonov (SKS) JJ • Created by the Russians • Semi automatic carbine rifle • Briefly used, not often • Extensively used by the Vietcon
Bicycles Nathan -Used by north vietnamese for transportation of men and materials. -Common on Ho Chi Minh trail. -Would reinforce the frame to carry heavier loads.
NVA Uniforms -The original NVA uniforms were tan khaki. -The shirts had two pleated pockets, closed with a pointed flap. -The pants had two side and one rear pocket, and adjusted with buttons at the waist. -This uniform was worn by the original NVA troops who entered SVN. LC
VC Uniforms BL -Viet Cong did not have marked uniforms -typical VC soldier would be wearing a hat, rubber sandals, and fatigues
Ao-dai, Nước chấm, Sampan LC -Ao-Dai is a traditional Vietnamese dress worn by women. Its a cultural symbol of beauty and is made of form fitting silk. -Nước chấm is a traditional Vietnamese dipping sauce that accents raw meals. -Sampan’s are small flat bottom boats of which can be used as permanent habitation on water.
