  3. Level 2 Targets. • Level 2 courses are all at the “GCSE” standard. This term covers new courses such as BTEC. • Our targets are always based on prior attainment. • We will review them throughout the two years to make sure they are realistic

  4. Progress Checks. • We send home our progress checks information so you can compare progress against targets. • This will happen four times a year; • Second week in November, • Second week in January, • Second week in March. • Second week in June.

  5. Coursework. • Most subjects will be operating new GCSE courses this year. • Most GCSE subjects no longer do “traditional” coursework. • Most do controlled tasks, done under supervision. • These need a lot of preparation before hand, sometimes at home.

  6. Exams. • Most GCSE courses have an examined component. • BTEC, ASDAN and OCR Nationals are coursework only. • Many students will take public exams during January and June of year 10; • English, Science, Geography, History, Business Studies. • English and Maths offer early entry to all students to give them “more than once chance” at passing. • We will not have a Y10 exam week this year because of the different timings needed for assessments.

  7. At Parents Evening. • Ask the teacher about how your child will be assessed over the next year and a half. • Ask how they will be approaching the coursework task and what it is. • Ask about deadlines for coursework and whether it can be done at home. • Ask about revision guides and revision support. • Take notes during the meeting.

  8. Attendance. • We monitor the links between attendance and success in Y11. • Poor attendance always brings limited success. • If a student has over one week off school, they may need support in catching up. • Please do not book holidays during term time in years 10 and 11. • 95% attendance is a minimum for GCSE success.
