  1. To start you off.. • Jesus said where two or three gather in my name … • So, three Christians met at a bus stop… • It must be a a Fresh Expression of church • Must it ?

  2. Just a few questions • What is church? • How do you know when something is Church? • Does it matter? • What is diagnostic to conclude something is not church?

  3. Doubtful and helpful approaches • Some ask is it Eucharistic? • Yes Jesus told us: ‘do this in memory of me’ • But do practices define the church or just express it • From doctrines of Trinity & humans in that image • Should we see the Church as interpersonal? • Then ask: what relationships should there be? • When do we call something ‘human’? • Is being church akin to being mature or being human? • Is there space for ‘embrionic’ church, ‘young’ church and ‘geriatric’ church?

When did Church first begin? • Pentecost is one traditional answer • But what, ecclesially, were the 12 disciples? • 12 is an ecclesial number • Disciples is one of Dulles models of the Church • Did they not have something of the Spirit in the mission of the 70? • OK they didn’t get it all – but isn’t that true of lots of us • In Christology … • When does Jesus become the Son of God? • What is the adoptionist heresy? • What implications are there for Ecclesiology?
