We will be coming back to the lab on a regular basis to work on this project. You need to focus on getting your information from reliable sources. • I have left you comments in the notes section to help you. Follow my instructions. • At the end of class you must send me your PowerPoint. Be sure to save your name, your homeroom name, and country in the title. Why I chose France. • I have always like France and wanted to visit to see the Eiffel Tower. • I know that this is also where the Louvre is located and I would like to see the Mona Lisa in person one day. • I also took four years of French in school and I would like the opportunity to be able to speak it with native French speakers. • I hope to learn more about the non touristic places of France. • I also want to learn about French culture, mainly any special festivals or culturally specific foods they might have. • I would also like to learn about the economy and their political system.

Geography • France is located in western Europe, bordering the Bay of Biscay and English Channel, between Belgium and Spain, southeast of the UK; bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Italy and Spain. • France has mostly flat plains or gently rolling hills in north and west; remainder is mountainous, especially Pyrenees in south, Alps in east. • Land use in France is 52.7% agriculture, 29.2% forest, and 18.1% other (2011est). • Climate is generally cool winters and mild summers, but mild winters and hot summers along the Mediterranean; occasional strong, cold, dry, north-to-northwesterly wind known as mistral

City Spotlight 1- Nancy Nancy is famous around the world for its group of architectural masterpieces inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List: Place Stanislas, Place de la Carrière and Place d’Alliance. This square originally called Saint Stanislas Square It is a symbol of the alliance in 1756 between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and France and is the origin of the name of the square Nancy is important to France because it has a lot of the remaining beautiful architecture. The buildings are so old, beautiful, and well taken care of that they can serve as an example of France’s historic architecture advance. People from all over the world travel to Nancy France to see these buildings and this helps aid the country economy.
