The 14th century through the 16th century • literary, artistic and intellectual development that began in Italy • inspired by the arts and scholarship of ancient Greece and Rome • Religious devotion • Universities introduced a new curriculum • New inventions=easier way of communicating and living • Elizabeth received a Renaissance education, became a patron of the arts, and Elizabethan came to describe the English Renaissance at its height

  3. Leonardo Da Vinci • a painter, sculptor, architect, and scientist • April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519 • considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time • Mona Lisa Is one of his most famous pieces of work

  4. Renaissance Influence • Knowledge= exploration • searched for all-sea routes • Rebirth of the English • impact on the music, architecture, and art

  5. Questioning the Catholic Church • educated questioned the Church teachings and hierarchy • intent was to reform the Catholic Church, but actually divided the church and introducing Protestantism • growing sense of nationalism led many to question the authority of the church • payment to the church (like taxes)
