  6. Complete your Applications • Be aware of deadlines: Check each application before you send it. After you send the application you need to turn in a transcript request form to the school counseling office. The School Counseling office requires a 2 week turnover time for sending out your transcript. • Early decision applications must be in early, the deadline is either November 1st or the 15th. • Arrange for SAT scores to be sent to the colleges. • Rolling Admissions…The sooner your application is received the greater your chances for acceptance. • Check www.commonapp.org for the list of schools that will accept the common application.

Applying to College Online • After completing your application online you are required to complete a transcript request form • This also applies to scholarships • If the college or scholarship does not participate in the edoc program the transcript will be mailed. Bring in a 9 x 12 envelope, addressed to the college and clip 5 first class stamps to the form.

What Comes to Your CounselorYour Check List • Transcript Request Form ( available on the School Counseling Web site: ocean.k12.nj.us) • If the college does not participate in the edoc program the transcript will be mailed. Bring in the form attached to an addressed 9x12 envelope with postage for mailing. (5 first class stamps clipped to envelope) • The school’s CEEB number is 311039 • Most recommendation forms are completed electronically. • If you are filing a paper application you are responsible for mailing the application, personal resume, check and supporting documents in a timely fashion

  12. Transcript Request Form Complete a transcript release form for each college/program to which you plan to apply. If the college or scholarship does not participate in the edoc program bring completed form and a self-sealing envelope, addressed to the college / program Clip 5 first class stamps to this form. When complete, bring materials to the School Counseling office

  13. Financial Aid Applications • Financial aid Workshop at OTHS, January 10th at 7pm • You must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) http:www.fafsa. ed.gov • The form can not be mailed in before January 1st. • Some schools require the CSS/Financial Aid profile. www.collegeboard.com • Scholarship information can be found in the Daily Bulletin at ocean.k12.nj.us and on Naviance.

  14. Two Weeks • Early Decision candidates must have transcript requests complete and to counselor by Oct. 15th. • You are responsible for requesting recommendations from your teachers. • We need at least two weeks to make sure a transcript request is processed correctly. • Do not Procrastinate! • All transcript request forms should be in your counselor’s office before Thanksgiving Recess. • Make sure to check each application for deadlines. Some may have priority deadlines.

National Collegiate Athletic Association • The NCAA clearinghouse will certify all athletes for divisions I and II. • An athlete needs to register the beginning of his or her senior year. • An NCAA Guide and student release form is available on line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. • In order for the School Counseling office to send an unofficial transcript to any college or university who is actively recruiting an athlete an OTHS release form must be filled out. • Eligibility is based on courses completed, grades and an SAT score. • www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHE5I9NyErA

Deciding on the Right School • Choose a school that is academically comfortable. • Consider the college environment (size of school, location, student body, etc.) • Make a decision based on a realistic assessment of how much playing time you will earn • Discuss scholarship and financial aid availability • Assess the “likeability” of the coaching staff • Make an evaluation of the school based on personal observations, not number of contacts by the coach

REMEMBER TO: • Pay attention to events that are listed in the DAILY BULLETIN on the school web site and NAVIANCE. • Remind your teachers concerning letters of recommendation. • Make sure all of your applications are complete before you send them. • A transcript request form should be submitted to the School Counseling Office and if the college does not participate in the edoc program an envelope addressed to the college with 5 first class stamps clipped to the envelop • If you have an interview before your application has been sent out we can give you an unofficial copy of your transcript to take with you. • Make sure you hand in the Senior information sheets with a personal resume . Due: September 14 • Senior year can be very stressful! Get your applications done early and enjoy the rest of your senior year.

Good Luck • Make sure you have a few foundation schools on your list • Your counselor is a great resource • All of your hard work, good grades and dedication to extra-curricular activities will pay off • Upon acceptance to a college or university you must submit a copy of your acceptance letter to your counselor
