  2. Curriculum 5th & 6th Asterias 4 “two year book” Στον Αστερία 4, η ύλη καλύπτει θέματα τα οποία είναι μέσα στα ενδιαφέροντα των παιδιών ηλικίας 12-14 ετών, εμπλουτισμένα με ένα λεξιλόγιο πιο αφηρημένο, το οποίο εισάγει τους μαθητές σε ένα προχωρημένο επίπεδο εκμάθησης της Ελληνικής γλώσσας.

Asterias 4 Στον Αστερία 4, εκτός από τα γραμματικά φαινόμενα, δίνεται ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στις ιδιαιτερότητες της Ελληνικής σύνταξης, γίνεται επανάληψη δύσκολων γραμματικών και συντακτικών φαινομένων όπως ο ευθύς και πλάγιος λόγος, ο υποθετικός λόγος, ο χρόνος, η αιτία, το αποτέλεσμα, ο σκοπός, η αντίθεση κ.ά. έτσι ώστε η έκφραση στη νέα γλώσσα να βελτιώνεται με στόχο το σωστό δομημένο λόγο.

  4. Curriculum “Greek for you” Greek for A0, A1 and A2 Middle school 7th & 8th Βασικοί στόχοι αυτής της σειράς είναι η εκμάθηση της Ελληνικής γλώσσας με υλικό ελκυστικό και φιλικό. Τα βιβλία διευκολύνουν στην εκμάθηση της γλώσσας με ασκήσεις, κείμενα, σκίτσα, και πινακίδες που επίσης ακολουθούνται από την μετάφραση με σκοπό την άμεση κατανόηση. Το υλικό της σειράς έχει δομηθεί με τη Μέθοδο του Σταδιακού Κτίσματος της Γνώσης (Scaffolding).

  5. “Greek for you” A0/ A1/ A2 This is a complete series for learning Greek as a second language for adults and adolescents. The material covered in these books corresponds to the examinations of the Greek Language certification. The recommendation is to begin this series in 7th grade for students ages 12 and up in order to begin Ellinomatheia preparations for A1.

  6. Ellinomatheia • The Centre for the Greek Language and its Function The Centre for the Greek Language was established in 1994 in Thessaloniki, Greece. It is a non-profit organization supervised by the Greek Ministry of Education and cooperating with the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs and the Aristotle University. Certificates are issued for successful candidates at any of the following six levels of attainment in Greek: Al (Al for children 8-12 years old, and Al for adolescents and adults), A2, Bl, B2, Γl and Γ2. The levels are linked to the corresponding levels of the Common European Framework (CEFR).

  7. Ellinomatheia Credits High schools may recognize the Ellinomatheia certificate as valid proof of language proficiency. However, various districts and schools may choose NOT to accept the certification in the place of taking a foreign language in High School.  Colleges and Universities may also accept the Ellinomatheia certificate, however each has its own governing policies and procedures. Score to Qualify for Commendation The Illinois State Board of Education accepts a passing score at an A2 level, when taken in High School. The State Seal of Biliteracy will be given to students with a passing score at a B1 level when taken in High School.

  8. Ellinomatheia Application The Application period is from February 1st to March 1st 2020. Please see your child’s teacher for level recommendation. Fees vary depending on level.

  9. Ellinomatheia Exam Frequently asked Questions What is the format and content of the examinations?
The examinations cover all four language skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). The examination is communication-oriented; it emphasizes not only grammatical accuracy and correctness, but also the candidate’s ability to use the language efficiently in a specific place and within a specific linguistic context, whether formal or informal. When are the examinations administered? Examinations at all levels are held once annually, in mid-May.

The results are announced by the examination centers in late July, and the certificates are awarded to successful candidates at the end of September or beginning of October. Results are sent via email. What is the State Seal of Biliteracy? The State Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition given to graduating high school students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English through the SAT. For the Greek language in reading, writing, listening and speaking at the B1 level.

The State Commendation toward Biliteracy is a recognition given to graduating high school students who have demonstrated significant progress toward achieving a high level of proficiency in English and in reading, writing, listening and speaking in another language. May the State Seal of Biliteracy be awarded to high school students if they tested in a grade prior to attending high school? No. In order for a student to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy or Commendation toward Biliteracy, the English and additional language assessments must be taken during the high school years.
