Why Should Scotland Be Involved? • U.Dance 2012 is a flagship high profile event for youth dance, promoting excellence and good practice and showcasing talented young dancers from across the UK • Opportunity for Scotland to rekindle and develop the youth dance infrastructure and network • Opportunity to develop excellence in youth dance practice • Opportunity to develop Scottish practice, events, platforms and festivals for youth dance groups in the future • Potential for Scotland to host international youth dance events in 2014
What is Good Practice in Youth Dance? • It is inclusive and creative • Incorporates dance technique and choreography • Involves a creative process where young people have a voice • Creates dance pieces that have high choreographic and performance standards • Challenges and develops young people

The Event The Event • 3 days of workshops for young dancers • 3 nights of performances by youth dance groups from across the UK, including the premiere performance of a new UK-wide youth dance company, the U.Dance Ensemble and a Project Y performance • 1 day international symposium for dance professionals
UDance Ensemble • First UK-wide youth dance company • Hofesh Shechter appointed as Artistic Director • The Ensemble will premiere their work at the event, with plans under way for the Company to tour selected venues across Britain from July to September 2012 • Open to past and present Project Y participants
How Do Your Groups Get Involved? • U.Dance Scottish Connection - 19 & 20 November 2011 - Glasgow venue (tbc) • U.Dance Platform Event - 25 February 2012 - MacRobert Arts Centre, Stirling
U.Dance Scottish Connection • Dance classes in a variety of styles • Choreography Workshops • Dance Platform to share work • Opportunities to network • The application process • - Application form go live w/c 1 August 2011 • - Applications for the weekend will open on 15 August 2011 • - 12 to 15 groups involved
U.Dance Scottish Platform Event • 25 February 2012 - MacRobert Arts Centre, Stirling • Large Scale Dance Event • Open to all youth dance groups across Scotland • The U.Dance 2012 panel will choose 4 groups to perform at the Southbank event • Application form will go live in October 2011 • Deadline for applications will be 4 January 2012 – send DVD • Groups will be notified by April 2012 if they have been selected
Information For Youth Dance Groups • Participants have to be aged 11-19 years (disabled dancers aged up to 24 years can apply) • No more than 15 in a group • Dance pieces should be no longer than 7 minutes • All groups need to provide 2 leaders
Costs • U.Dance 2012: Scottish Connection - Free event for groups to participate - Travel and accommodation subsidy available for groups outwith Central Belt • U.Dance 2012: Scotland's Youth Dance Platform - Free for groups to perform • Southbank Event (for chosen groups) - Contribution towards food and accommodation: £130 per person (incl. group leaders) - Groups to cover travel costs to London • Funding suggestions - Youth Dance England (www.yde.org.uk) - YDance (www.ydance.org)
