  4. What Now? • RELEVANT INFORMATION • Contents – chapter headings • Abstracts – read the abstract • Look for key concepts (not just keywords) • USING INFORMATION • Direct Quotes • Paraphrases

DIRECT QUOTES • Author’s words used exactly as in the text. • Either in paragraph with quotation marks or indented depending on word count of quote • Find this in your referencing guide • Referenced in the text with page number • Find this in your referencing guide • There is a limit to the amount of direct quotes you use

  6. PARAPHRASING Paraphrasing is your summary of the ideas in the text you have read. It is NOT JUST CHANGING THE WORDING. If you just change the wording: THAT IS PLAGIARISM!!!!! PARAPHRASES NEED TO BE REFERENCED (See Referencing Guide)

Directed Study / Homework • Paste one of your paraphrases you have used in your ESSAY and the original text into a word document • Label each so we can identify them (e.g. “Paraphrase” / “Original Text”) • Upload to the wiki or blog Note: Your recommended reading will help you paraphrase correctly (see blackboard).
