A system to identify and correlate the SSS to your lessons and assessments. Show where you have taught and tested which standards. This “system” needs to be simple yet accomplishes the intention of the law. Can you show where a benchmark has been taught or tested when asked, within a reasonable amount of time? Every Teacher must be able to demonstrate this. One system can be documented, but all must be able to do it. My recommendation is to work backwards, go thru each benchmark as a checklist and cite the chapter and or activity that will cover this benchmark. When asked, you will see it was covered in unit 4 and unit 4 was taught on this date and tested on this date as documented in your plans….this is just one idea, you may develop a better system. Plans should be: • Developed as a team and consistent among the grade levels. • Individual members may be designated to develop specific parts of the plan, but the curriculum, activities and assessments are used and evaluated by all on the team. • Each year, this “team approach” to planning will help us to fine tune and develop the most effective work for our students. • Common planning is a time for sharing and developing ideas. • The concept of “working on the work” is to find the most meaningful activities structured in such a way as to enhance the learning time. • Remember, teaching is not just presenting information. It’s not what you teach, it’s what do they learn that is important! The correct questions, the most effective strategies and the best activities are the key!
