Essays • Woman’s Rights Essay Women didn’t have much freedom during the Elizabethan Era compared to now days. Although, women during the Elizabethan Era may have had more rights before and a little after the Elizabethan Era, life then was quite hard for women because women couldn’t get proper education, men had control over women, and women weren't able to work in professions. Firstly, women couldn’t get proper education because women weren’t able to go to college or university, women were home schooled and rich were able to go to school. Women were home schooled and only rich were able to go to school but, only the rich woes fathers thought it was important to get an education could go to school. If they were able to go to school they would only learn the basics a lot about religion, and they'd learn how to speak Latin and French. Unlike now days all classes can get proper education and its mandatory to go to school. Also, now days we learn about all sorts of subjects like math, science, English, history etc. Secondly, men had control over women because they could beat/punish their wives, they would always look after women, and fathers decided who they'll marry. Men were able to beat/punish their wives although they may have done something wrong doesn’t mean that men should beat them. However, now days its inappropriate to punish/ beat your wife, it's also not considered “legal”. At some points being looked after could be good but, sometimes during Elizabethan era looking after women would become pretty bad, like the fact that fathers would choose who their daughter will marry. Therefore, now days fathers don’t choose who their daughter will marry, except for some religions but, it doesn’t happen often. Thirdly, women weren't able to work in professions because women usually did the house work, men were only able to work in professions, and women usually had basic jobs. Women usually worked around the house and looked after their children, now days some women still do that but, most women have proper jobs. Men were only able to work in professions, they were able to act in theaters and they were able to work in the navy/ army. Women usually had basic jobs like being a maid, painter, and a cook. Also, women could write works of literature. However, now days women are able to become anything they would like to be. Lastly, women's rights during the Elizabethan Era were very different from now days, women can get proper education, men don’t have control over women, and women are able to work in professions. As you can see life for women during the Elizabethan Era was harder than now days, women have a lot of freedom now. Megan.
During the Elizabethan era women didn’t have much rights like they have these days. Women now a days get to choose there husband, we now a days get to go to school & we’re able to have any job we would like. Girls in the Elizabethan era weren’t allowed to choose their own husband, go to school & have any job they would like. In this essay I’ll be talking about how times were in the Elizabethan are & how they are now. In the Elizabethan era girls weren’t able to get to choose their own husband. These days do you ever see girl dads picking their husband for their daughter? In the Elizabethan era the girl’s fathers would pick their husband for them. The reason why the father would pick the husband is because it was believed that the dad wanted to make sure that their daughter was going to be looked after well. How’d you feel if your father had to pick the person you were going to marry? What if you never really liked that person? Also in the Elizabethan era girls weren’t able to go to school. Only the upper class girls would be able to go to school & that’d only be if their dad said it was fine & that they believed it was important for girls to get a education. If you didn’t go to school you were either homeschooled or doing house work with your mom. If you did go to school you’d be learning music theory, a little of Latin & some French. Now a days you learn music, drama, math, French , English , science & a lot more. My last point about the Elizabethan era is that you weren’t allowed to have any job you would like. In the Elizabethan era you’d have a small choice of jobs. You’d only be able to be a maid, painter or cook. You wouldn’t be able to have a job like a teacher or a lawyer . In the Elizabethan era you weren’t allowed to join the navy or army. The Elizabethan times were very hard for women. If you were a women in the Elizabethan era you weren’t allowed to choose your own husband, go to school & you weren’t allowed to have any job you’d like. Picture how hard It must have been for the females in the Elizabethan era. You should be thankful you didn’t have to struggle like that, I know I am. • Tia
