Making Events – Workflows and Business Rules – SharePoint 2010
SharePoint’s Strengths • Follows the Universities current direction for Email, Calendaring, and Collaboration. • Live@edu • Exchange 2010 • Workflows – Automated Event creation • Rich API for custom development • Strong searching, tagging and filtering.
SharePoint 2010 Features • Calendar Overlays • Better UI
SharePoint’s Weaknesses • iCal feeds, sharing links for Facebook, etc. not out of the box – Available via API.
Calendar Examples • FSU College of Music Public Calendar – http://calendar.music.fsu.edu • http://wwwm.coventry.ac.uk/cuevents/Pages/CUCalendar.aspx • http://www.andover.edu/Calendar/Pages/default.aspx?month=4-4-2011 • http://www.ucdenver.edu/alumni_friends/calendar/Pages/DowntownEvents.aspx • http://www.ucdenver.edu/calendar/Pages/AllEvents.aspx - Note the “Find events by:” dropdown. Very slick for filtering. • http://www.ucdenver.edu/Calendar/Pages/CalendarView.aspx - Did find some bugs with their implementation of this. • SharePoint 2010 Example – http://fsu.sharepoint.com
