Quality Parent Teacher Conferences Using Data Facilitators: Principal…..
Agenda • Overview • Inclusion • Goal of conferences • Work time – 30 minutes!
Outcome for today • Each grade level will be completing a chart. • Charts will be hung in the staff center for a gallery walk so that each grade level gains an awareness of what other grade levels are doing in their parent-teacher conferences.
Inclusion: Perspective • Turn and talk • Think of a time when you were a parent at a parent-teacher conference • Or a time when you were in a meeting with someone and on the “other side of the table” – at a medical appointment with an ill or aging parent, at a house closing where you were signed many legal documents , etc. • What helped you become and remain engaged in the meeting? Or if the meeting did not go well, what would you have appreciated that could have made it go better.
Parent- Teacher Conference: The overall purpose • Aligned with SIP goals of reading, math, behavior • Consistent, school-wide communication • Engaging/empowering parents in the learning process • 15-minutes broken into 3 parts: (1) Engagement– relationship (2) Where are we? (provide examples of student performance including quantitative (e.g., MAP profile) and qualitative data (observations) (3) What are we doing to move forward?
Outcome for today: Common Message • 2 min. engagement - what will that look like? Possible prompts? • 5 min. where are we? define grade-level tools that will be used to show where student is (Quantitative and Qualitative) • 5 min. what are WE doing to move kids forward? handouts/materials for parents • 3 min. engagement - wrap up/closure
