Pedagogical Approaches 1/2 • New curricula for all engineering programmes • Existing practices: active teaching, projects; aligned with the needs of industry • Consistent with national requirements • Structure: basic studies, core studies, elective professional studies • Duration: 4-year Bachelor of Engineering programme, 240 ECTS • Internship 30 ECTS • Freely elective studies 15 ECTS • Final thesis 15 ECTS
Pedagogical Approaches 2/2 • Consistent with ECTS requirements: competence-based matrix, modular or theme approach (4 x 15 ECTS, 40 weeks/a) • Consistent with FEANI engineer requirements: maths (>10 %) and math&sciences (>20 %) • Consistent with CDIO: Introductory engineering project, Metropolia project to be carried out on innovation platforms, integration of courses (disciplines), module/theme-based instruction
Views on CDIO • Challenge of integration of studies: 1000 years long tradition of disciplines • Should engineering be called as one of the disciplines? • Learning objectives are fragmented: manageable human being manages 7(±2) chunks of information • Learning objectives vs. scientific vs. financial objectives regarding the projects
CDIO roadmap of Metropolia • Commitment made in the autumn 2008 • First introductory projects started 1.9.2008 (e.g. CDIO of a computer with software; teamwork and communication) • Start-up evaluation against the CDIO standards incl. engineers competences under planning • Planning of second year integrated studies in 2009 • Planning of innovation projects in 2010 (100 projects !)
