Title I Programs and Interventions Each high school is eligible to receive Title I funds from the federal government based upon our identified low income families who reside in our district Even though each school made AYP (Annually Yearly Progress) we still receive Title I funds based upon NCLB Act, 2001

  3. Who can participate in a Title I supplemented program? • All students! • An intervention program uses Title I funds for all students but tries to ensure that low income students receive all the benefits afforded a non-low income student • Students are NOT singled out or identified publically

  4. Who supports interventions supplemented by Title I funds? • Every staff member and administrator supports the efforts of the Title I funds • No teacher is labeled a Title I teacher, and no student is labeled a Title I student • Board of Education members support • Community members support

  5. The School Improvement Plans • District 117 teachers and administrators spend at least one year creating the SIP in each of our schools • The plan must be reviewed and revised every three years to make sure we are helping ALL of the students

  6. Who receives extra services? • Any student struggling academically, socially, emotionally, or behaviorally may use Title I funds only to supplement other funds the district is already receiving • Title I funds are targeted for particular students but ALL students benefit

  7. Title I Funded Programs • Literacy Coach and Reading Initiatives • Professional Development • Common Core Reading • STAR testing (pre and post) all freshmen • Achievement Series- Common Finals to review for teaching instruction

  8. Title I Funded Programs • PSAE/ACT/A.P. Test Preparation- 40 • Positive Behavioral Incentives • Classroom supplies; bowling and self-defense units in PE • Institute Day presenter- Faculty and Students • Technology, Apex, Chromebooks, Internet

  9. What about the parents? • Schools must comply with Title I requirements for parental involvement • Feel free to join our meetings and we welcome your opinions • Join the Parent Advisory Council in your respective school, attend school sponsored evening programs, and continue to check the IC portal and webpage • Research indicates that when parents are engaged with their student’s education, whether in school or at home, students perform better academically
