  1. Malawi-born wins Olympic gold, First Gentleman Chief Justice Richard Banda inspires team

  2. Malawi team taking part in the London 2012 Olympic games can claim a sliver of the gold medal from a Malawian born Aussie.The 20-year-old Cate Campbell won gold medal of the London 2012 Olympic games in the women’s swimming 4x100m freestyle relay team on Saturday.

  3. The gold medallist confirmed she was born and grew up in Blantyre, Malawi “until the age of nine.”Competing for Malawi are Mike Tebulo for the men’s marathon, AmbweneSimukonda the women’s 400m and Joyce Tafatatha the 50m freestyle(swimming).

Team MalawiMeanwhile, the First Gentleman retired Chief Justice Richard Banda who as a track and field athlete represented Malawi in Olympics and later became the President of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association of Malawi inspired the Malawi team and wished them the best in the London games.

  5. Banda said this when he visited the team at the Olympic village, saying what is expected of them from Malawi is solely their best performance .The First Gentleman donated K3 million (about $12 000) to the Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) which helped preparations of the Malawi team.

  6. Banda made the donation out of his passion for athletics and sports in generalDeputy High Commissioner at the Malawi High Commission in London, John Tembo Junior thanked Banda for visiting the team at the Olympic village before the games commenced.

Tembo said Banda’s visit was a special inspirational and motivation to the Malawi team to deliver and fly the Malawi flag high.Oscar Kanjala, who is the President of MOC, thanked the First Gentleman for the personal donation that made it possible for Malawi to participate in the Olympic Games.

  8. Kanjala , paid a special tribute to the First Gentleman and Her Excellency the President Joyce Banda for their support in the promotion of sports in Malawi.
