Using SHA metrics framework • Organisational readiness – evidence of commitment to implementation of MECC • Staff readiness – evidence of training and confidence levels • Delivery of MECC – evidence of numbers of contacts and referrals
Organisational readiness • CQUINs with key NHS providers • One of the three CCG priority local indicators/outcomes • Action for 13/14 in Health and Well-being Strategy
Staff readiness • Incorporation of MECC face to face training into Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s mandatory induction and clinical update programme • E-learning module embedded in organisation’s training framework • Face to face support • Performance dashboard and reporting framework for all, reporting via CCG and Health and Well-being Board (includes LA and partners)
Delivery of MECC • Electronic counting and inclusion in performance dashboard wherever possible • Signposting/ referral cards for Lifestyle link (through Innovations Fund) that can track intervention back to staff area • Single point of referral – Lifestyle link and signposting to partners • Ability to track outcome after referral to specialist services covering smoking cessation, physical activity, weight and diet, mental well-being, alcohol and drug use.
Issues for consideration • Commissioning and the future • Types of learning required by staff to improve confidence • Need for further differentiation when tracking staff ‘intervention areas’ through use of cards • Better use of joined up IT – consideration of web based referral hub • Impact of moving Public Health to commissioning culture where capped budget is required • Capacity of specialist services to deal with referrals – waiting lists, targeting, recognition that some services charge at point of delivery
