2. Reasons for WPS • To protect agricultural workers from occupational exposure to pesticides • To inform agricultural workers about pesticide applications • To reduce the impact of exposure by making decontamination supplies and emergency assistance available to workers NCDA&CS 2000-2002

3. If you own or operate a farm, forest, nursery or greenhouse and employ agricultural workers/handlers you must: • Establish a Central Notification Site • Give Notice of Applications • Conduct Safety Training • Provide PPE • Provide Decontamination Supplies • Offer Emergency Assistance NCDA&CS 2000-2002

4. Agricultural Use Requirements Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Worker Protection Standard, 40 CFR part 170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers on farms, forests, nurseries, and greenhouses, and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains requirements for training, decontamination, notification, and emergency assistance. It also contains specific instructions and exceptions pertaining to the statements on this label about personal protective equipment (PPE), notification-to-workers, and restricted-entry intervals. The requirements in this box only apply to uses of this product that are covered by the Worker Protection Standard. NCDA&CS 2000-2002

6. WORKERS A worker is anyone who: • is employed for any type of compensation and • is doing tasks such as harvesting, weeding, watering, suckering, etc..., relating to the production of agricultural plants on a farm, forest, nursery, or greenhouse NCDA&CS 2000-2002

8. HANDLERS A handler is anyone who: • is doing any of the following tasks: • mixing, loading, transferring, or applying pesticides • handling opened containers of pesticides • flagging • cleaning, adjusting, handling, or repairing any part of pesticide equipment that may contain pesticide residues • assisting in the application, including soil incorporation NCDA&CS 2000-2002

10. Central Notification Information • WPS safety poster • Local emergency medical information • Name, phone number, and address • List recent pesticide applications NCDA&CS 2000-2002

11. Central Information - Where? • In a location where it can be easily seen and read by the workers and handlers NCDA&CS 2000-2002

13. WPS Records of Recent Applications Must Include: • Location of treated site • Product Name • EPA Reg. No. • Active Ingredients • Time & Date of Application • REI (Post at the Central Information Site) NCDA&CS 2000-2002

16. Requirements for Notice of Applications • Farms, Forests, and Nurseries • Workers may be notified either orally or by posting of warning signs. • If label specifies double notification, both oral & posted warnings must be given. • Greenhouses • Must post all treated areas. Oral notification may also be required by the pesticide label. NCDA&CS 2000-2002

18. Restricted Entry Interval (REI) • The time at the end of the application during which entry into the treated area is restricted NCDA&CS 2000-2002

19. Notice of Applications • Content of Oral Warnings • Location and description of treated area • Time frame of REI • Instructions not to enter treated area until REI has expired NCDA&CS 2000-2002

Notice of Applications • Timing of Oral Warnings • If workers are present, they must be warned before application takes place. • If they are not present, they must be warned orally at the beginning of their next work period provided the application is still taking place or the REI is still in effect. 25. Handler/Worker Training When to Train • Handlers - before performing any handling task • Workers - basic training before entry into a treated area and full training before 6th day of entry • Early-entry workers - before any early- entry task NCDA&CS 2000-2002

26. Handler/Worker Training Who Can Conduct Training? • Certified applicator • NCDA&CS-approved designated trainer • Individual who has completed NCDA&CS or CES-approved “Train-the-Trainer” program NCDA&CS 2000-2002

27. Training Methods • Approved EPA or NCDA&CS video • Approved training materials: • flip charts, manuals, slides • Use language understood by worker • Respond to questions NCDA&CS 2000-2002

28. Handler/Worker Training Training requirements are met if a worker or handler: • Has been trained within last 5 years OR • Is currently a certified applicator NCDA&CS 2000-2002

31. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Follow label requirements for handlers/early-entry workers. • PPE must be supplied and maintained by the employer. • Employees must be trained on the proper use of PPE. NCDA&CS 2000-2002

37. USDA RECORDKEEPING NCDA&CS has entered into an agreement with the USDA to carry out the provisions of the federal record keeping regulations. FOR RESTRICTED-USE PESTICIDES NCDA&CS 2000-2002

38. USDA Record Keeping Requirements • Certified applicators of RUP’s • Records must be completed within 14 days of application • Records must be kept for 2 years NCDA&CS 2000-2002
