Homework Policy • Math homework will be issued regularly • Late work is penalized 50% • No-name papers will be deducted 50% • Absent work – students will be given as many days as they are absent to turn in their absent work • Homework will be due during the beginning of the next class meeting • They will need to show their work on their homework. Answers should be boxed, circled, or highlighted. Homework should be done in pencil. • Assignments should be written in the Binder Reminder. Posted in class and on Chaparral Middle School website.
General Information • Attendance – Regular attendance is necessary for school success. This includes arriving on time and leaving at scheduled dismissals. Please notify the office if your child is absent. It is your child’s responsibility to obtain missed assignments. • Supplies – Your child is responsible for bringing necessary materials to class daily.
Materials Used in Class • Textbook – class set, Prentice Hall Algebra 1 • Covers emphasized Standards in the entire book • Spiral notebook – brought to class daily • “White Boards”, marker, and eraser
Interactive Notebooks • Daily Skills Practice (Opening Activities) • Notes • Textbook assignments • Graded periodically—focus on organization
Problem of the Week • Metacognition: thinking about thinking • Word problems • Review of a variety of math skills • Practicing problem-solving strategies
Grading • Weighted Grades – 70% Assessments, 30% Homework/Class work/Projects • Grades available to view on parent portal • May retake one test <80% per quarter for as high as 80% - Retakes will be towards the end of each quarter. • Must maintain 80% or higher to remain this class
