JESUS’ TRIAL Jesus’ trial was actually a series of hearings, carefully controlled to lead to the death of Jesus. The verdict was pre-decided, but certain ‘legal’ procedures had to be carried out. A lot of effort went into condemning and crucifying an innocent man, and Jesus went through an unfair trial which finally led to his crucifixion
JESUS’ TRIAL Trial before Annas (Powerful ex-high priest) Probable Reason: Although no longer the high priest, he may still have much power Reference: John 18:13-23
JESUS’ TRIAL Trial before Caiaphas (The ruling high priest) Probable Reason : To gather evidence for the high council hearing that was to follow Reference: Luke 22:54, 63 – 65

JESUS’ TRIAL Trial before Herod (ruler of Galilee) Probable Reason : A courteous and guilt-sharing act by Pilate because Jesus was from Galilee (Herod’s district) Reference: Luke 23:7 – 12
JESUS’ TRIAL Trial before Pilate (highest Roman authority) Probable Reason : Pilate’s last effort to avoid condemning an obviously innocent man. Reference: Luke 23:13 – 25
