  1. The RIF Trust Take on Securing Malta Permanent Residence Mohamed Hegazy is our Malta Permanent Residence specialist. He explains that “the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) opens doors when it comes to the Schengen zone.” Hegazy elaborates: “As a Permanent Resident of Malta, you’ll enjoy freedom of travel within the 29 countries that comprise the Schengen area.” “Currently, that will help you combat Schengen visa rejection. Looking further ahead, you’ll not be affected by the launch of ETIAS and won’t have issues with your European travel plans.” 2 Routes to Maltese Residency by Investment In 2024, you can invest in a Maltese residency in either of the following ways: 1.Rent real estate for a minimum of €10,000 per year in the south of the main island of Malta/on Gozo island or €12,000 in the rest of the major island of Malta and contribute €58,000 to the Maltese Government 2.Buy real estate worth at least of €300,000 in the south of Malta/on Gozo or €350,000 in the rest of Malta and make a Government contribution of €28,000 Whichever MPRP path you take, these are the further conditions you need to meet: Maintain the qualifying real estate for a minimum 5 years Pay a €40,000 non-refundable administration charge Donate €2,000 to a registered Maltese animal welfare, artistic, cultural, philanthropic, scientific, or sporting charity Present your passport Set up medical insurance to cover you when you’re in Malta Take out a travel insurance policy during travels through the Schengen area
