  1. Geotechnical Investigation NCTC Stormwater Management Pond

  2. Actual Quotes Regarding Geophysical Survey Results • What do you call this stuff, Voodoo Engineering? • Although I don’t know what it all means, the sections look pretty! • So what color is bad, red or blue? • I like the colored pictures more than the engineering technical mumbo-jumbo in the report.

  3. SCOPE OF WORK • Limited Geophysical Study • Air-Track Probe Investigation

  4. SITE PLAN

  5. SITE HISTORY • Previously filled sinkholes (concrete, soil and rock) • Ravelling and subsidence continuing of sinkholes GEOLOGIC SETTING • Conococheaque formation of Upper Cambrian Age

  6. FIELD INVESTIGATION • Phase 1 – Electrical Resistivity Imaging • Phase 2 – Air-track Probes

  7. SITE INVESTIGATION LAYOUT

  8. 2-D RESISTIVITY SECTIONS

  11. ATP LOG

  12. SITE COMPILATION (Swiss Cheese)

  13. RECOMMENDATIONS • Two options: • Repair existing sinkholes with a reverse graded filter and a clay cap. Risk of future maintenance costs associated with any additional sinkholes that may develop beyond the repaired area. • Repair existing sinkholes as noted above and install a geosynthetic liner. Best long-term solution.

  14. GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS IN KARST TERRAIN
