  2. Description: Making and repairing various types of jewellery, possessing a high aesthetic value.

  3. Tasks: • Preparation of a wax model; • Preparation of plaster footprint; • Melting the raw material; • Production of cast material in the semi-ornament; • Cleaning the casting of gypsum waste; • Drillingand grinding; • Mount of stone; • Burnish.

  4. TOOLS, MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT: Used materials are: • Precious metals (gold, silver, platinum); copper; precious and semiprecious stones; • Supporting materials - goldsmith wax and goldsmith gypsum, concentrated nitric and sulfuric acid;

Technical equipment: • Gas torches; • Dials for filigree; • Magnifying glasses; • Specific equipment: goldsmith hammers, pliers, files, scalpels, chisels, brushes, felt; • Oven; • Table with vice; • Masks with magnifying glasses; • Cone for determining the size of the rings; • Signal and security equipment; • Safes; • Means of communication; • Work clothes; • Safety glasses.

  6. WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS: A jeweler works in studio with separate premises, according to the division of labor and because of security. These premises are for the actual work of designing and making jewelry and for acceptance of customers.

WORK SECURITY AND JOB HAZARD REQUIREMENTS: A jeweller works with work clothing to avoid or reduce adverse effects coming from the noise, noxious fumes from the work with metal and substances, irritating to the skin (acid and gold dust). It is obligatory to have an aspirator, first aid kit and sink. It is desirable to ensure the studio with barred windows and an alarm system.

REQUIRED PHISICAL PROPERTIES: • Good physical health, which allows working posture in standing or sitting in slightly bent position; • A jeweler works exclusively with both hands; • A visual acuity, normal color vision, finger dexterity, accuracy and coordination of movement of hands; According to Bulgarian law profession is suitable for people with disabilities in the lower limbs or hearing impaired.

  10. MENTAL REQUIREMENRS: • A jeweller must be mentally tough, responsible, honest, diligent and precise in his work. • He must have artistic abilities, sense of form and space and the ability to form products by fine technique.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: It is believed that the job is relatively easy in services, mainly in the jewelry workshops, shops, stalls; in museums and galleries as a restorer; in cinema and television as an artist; expert - evaluator's in Customs or antiquarian.The risk of unemployment is low because of the possibility to organize own business.

  13. CURRENT SITUATION AND ITS FUTURE: In recent years is used more advanced and modern equipment – syringes and electronic equipment. With the development of modern science and technology the various processes were computerize - receiving information and orders over the Internet, design and others.

  14. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Basic Education; • Prior knowledge of "Art," "Anatomy," "Chemistry", "Processing of precious metals"; • Computer literacy and Internet; • Ability to draw and design models; • Art treatment of metals and modeling.

  15. SCHOOL UNITS WHICH INCLUDE THIS SPECIALIZATION: • Secondary Art School of Applied Arts; • Vocational School of Metallurgy and Mining; • Training Course in jewelery after high school;

DURATION AND CONTENT OF THE EDUCATION: • Secondary Art School of Applied Arts - the period of training is 5 years full time;At the end of each school year a practical test is conducting. • Eighth grade - design and construction of objects of non-ferrous metal with decoration or illuminant - candle holder of black metal, cold treatment. • Ninth grade - forged ferrous metals (shallow dish) and black metal, hot processing. • Tenth grade - forged ferrous metal (pot, vase) and jewelry (bracelet, ring). • Eleventh grade - a copy of Renaissance ornament with optional equipment. • Twelfth grade - state matriculation examinations, examination in main special subject and thesis defense (design and implementation of a set of ornaments, decorative or functional objects and black metal - hot processing). • Vocational School of Metallurgy and Mining - 5 years; • Training Course in jewellery after high school - 2 months;

  17. SPECIFIC SUBJECTS, AS COMPRISED IN EDUCATIONAL PLANS: • Composition and Design; • Drawing; • History of art; • Combinatorics; • Technology and classroom practice; • Plastic anatomy.

  18. PROMOTION IN THE CAREER: • Participation in national and international exhibitions, business - workshops and others. • To become a famous master of his craft; • To open own studio.
