Change In leadership within the agency • Ferocious appetite for data In legislation • Need for data systems and more data SLDS Webinar 8-21-13
Changes Led to… Need for one voice • Alignment of definitions • Limiting of reporting • One way in and one way out Need to understand • Education staff as opposed to data staff assisting with interpretation Focus on Quality and Accuracy • All data collected must be validated SLDS Webinar 8-21-13
What went well… Established clear process of requesting and releasing data Established “Master” reports to pull from Established processes that allowed team to adjust priorities at a moment’s notice Established a process of validation and checking to ensure data accuracy Data calendar representing the flow of data (internal and external) was established SLDS Webinar 8-21-13
What didn’t go so well… Appetite was so ferocious staff could not keep up • Turned into a data request “sweat shop” Important areas were neglected • Alignment of systems • Support of the offices • Data interpretation and assistance SLDS Webinar 8-21-13
Moving away from a data request “sweat shop” Re-alignment of teams Allocation of more staff Focus on teaming with IT to automate • Cubes • Standard Reports Re-establishing support of the offices via liaisons as well as cross departmental committee meetings SLDS Webinar 8-21-13
