IMLS is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. Oregon State Library State Library of North Carolina

  12. See where there are plenty of checkmarks Begin thinking about your … Action Plan Select circled areas for focused actions Identify strategies, tools, partners, communication plans, etc. and have a better idea of what success looks like

  14. How do you begin? • You can… • use the worksheet on pages 49 & 50 • use a checklist • “mind-map” on a blank sheet of paper • whatever will help you take the next step

  15. What will Youdo? Here are a few ideas to get you started… • Set up computers specifically for job search – • hang an updated weekly job listing from Workforce • next to those computers. Do not require a • sign-in or a time limit. • Collaborate with Workforce to come to the library • and offer workshops. • Hang a bright sign around the jobseekers’ • computers: “Are you networking? Ask me how!”

Here are a few ideas to get you started… • Ask Friends to purchase thumb drives for job seekers. • Don’t forget the “personal touch.”People need to • know we care. • Conduct step-by-step computer training. • Create a “resume advice kit.” • Make sure Wi-Fi is “on” 24/7 so that patrons can • access it from the parking lot on weekends or after hours.

Here are a few ideas to get you started… • Look for partners in the community who could offer • workshops/sessions on coping with the news of • losing your job, dealing with the stress of being • unemployed, etc. • Develop a Community Partner Program and train others • to be “certified” in helping to complete applications, • resumes, etc. • Invite HR personnel from companies to come in to • do training on job skills.

  18. What will Youdo? Here are a few ideas to get you started… • Use eye-catching titles in advertisements for job • seeker programs. • Start a job club or connect patrons to career • support groups. • Teach job interviewing in English to bilingual job • seekers.
