UC San Diego Library • Physical and virtual centers for learning, study, and scholarship at UC San Diego • Two library facilities supporting study and research in all fields (Geisel Library, Biomedical Library) • Collections and services supporting instructional programs and research • Website offering access to digital collections and services and to information about the Libraries • Large employer of students on campus

Support for learning and study • Collections (covering all disciplines) • 3,672,547 bound volumes • circulation: 562,972/year (2nd highest in the UC); 64% checked out by undergraduates • 588,230 electronic books • 85,041 periodicals/serials subscriptions • 42,920 electronic journals/serials • 400 databases licensed for use by UCSD community • 17,234 manuscripts & archives units (held in special collections and archives) • Access to other local library collections (Circuit)and other UC library collections (ILL) • Study Spaces (quiet, active, individual, group) • 4173 study seats (14% of enrollment) • 48 group study rooms (available for reservation) • New overnight study commons + 24/7 for Finals • 485 computer workstations – most supported by ACMS, with printing

Support for learning and study • Course Reserves / e-Reserves • 2346 courses supported per year (text, audio, media) • Information and research assistance • in person: information and reference desks; by phone; by appointment; labs and info commons; in departments • virtual: Ask a Librarian (email, 24/7 chat, text), course and subject guides • Instructional sessions (1215 per year - 2ndhighest in the UC) • class-related (by arrangement with faculty) • specialized sessions for academic groups • Outreach activities • exhibits (e.g., Pirates in Print, Harry Potter’s World) • events (e.g., Undergraduate Library Research Prize, Student Book Collecting Contest, Late-night Halloween horror film!)

A day in the life of the library 8,406 entered library buildings 1,941 items were checked out or renewed 792 reference questions were answered; 139 answered virtually 53 people received library instruction 38 people participated in outreach activities 595 new book volumes were acquired 72 items were borrowed from other libraries for use by UCSD library users 11,696 Roger searches were made 113,475 hits were made to the library’s website
