6. Rob Endter, President, Rotary Club of Copperas Cove on Fellow Rotarian Janine Aman “When I think of Service Above Self, Janine Aman immediately comes to mind. She is the most unselfish person I know. She contributes more time to Rotary and community activities than practically anyone. She exudes the Rotary spirit and infects all with the same “can do” attitude. Two major projects she started and runs are the Dictionary distribution program where more than 1200 English dictionaries were given to Copperas Cove 3rd graders and the Interact club at our local high school. She is on just about every committee to make a difference, and she does. I can think of very few other Rotarians that have her zeal to make our community better.”

8. Michael D. Jansen, President, Rotary Club of Lakeway – Lake Travis on Fellow RotarianMax Blankenzee “Max embodies the best of being a Rotarian. He has served the club well in many roles. Max travels the world in his work. He credits his successes, both personally and in his career, to the connections he has been able to make, both here and around the world, due to his membership in Rotary. Max lives the Four-Way Test. When he meets Rotarians in his international travels, a friendship and level of trust is immediately established. Max’s family is truly a Rotary family with his wife, Ruth, the district governor-elect and their daughter, a Rotary member, does work for Rotary. On behalf of the Lakeway/Lake Travis Rotary Club, I am truly honored to be recommending Max Blankenzee to the Roll of Fame.”

10. Daniel Junek, President, Rotary Club of Caldwell on Fellow Rotarian Carl Cummins “This Rotarian represents the Rotary Four Way Test and the Rotary Motto. His membership in the Rotary Club is marked by 100% attendance, a record he has maintained for 24 years. He pays his dues on time, and is an annual sustaining member in the Paul Harris Program. He is about to complete his second one. Carl participates in all our club funding and service programs. He attempts to be present and render whatever service is required. He supports all our fund raising events with his personal funds by purchasing sponsorship tables and tickets. He always responds positively when called on for service.”

12. Carry Bruce, President, Rotary Club of East Austin on Fellow Rotarian Tyra Duncan-Hall ““Tyra has demonstrated her commitment to the basic tenets of Rotary since joining Rotary in 1999. Before and after her tenure as President of our club, she has generously given of her time, talents, and leadership to ensure that our club continues to grow and thrive, celebrates its diversity, and participates in projects and activities that benefit the less fortunate in our community. She brings the same philosophy and energy to our club activities as she did in her professional career as Provost of Austin Community College. Especially noteworthy is her commitment to developing community partnerships to leverage resources for disadvantaged students and families. Although she is now retired, Dr. Duncan-Hall remains active in Austin education, community, and civic activities. She currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the City of Austin Housing Authority, was former commissioner of the African American Quality of Life Resource Commission, and former President of the Rotary Club of East Austin. She is also the former chair of several community/ civic organizations in East and Southeast Austin including the Montopolis Business and Community Leaders Group, (2002-2007) the Booker T. Washington Collaborative,(2000-2007) and co-chaired with Earl Maxwell, “Champion Austin” (2004-2007), a civic/community group that focused on enhancing East Austin vitality and economic development. We continue to rely on Tyra for her vision, her generosity, and her willingness to do whatever is necessary to see that our club projects succeed--whether it is organizing our garage sales, purchasing gifts for our adopted families, chairing our scholarship committee, or partnering with Community in Schools to assist economically disadvantaged students. She is a true Rotarian who makes “Service Above Self” a concrete reality.”

14. “Bill and his wife Edra are models for other members of Rotary to follow. He can be counted on to do anything anyone asks him to do if it is possible. He coordinates a month long mission trip to Mexico yearly with help from his Church at Horseshoe Bay, local dentists and doctors. This group provides materials and builds houses for destitute Mexicans in the area, provides medical and dental services and promotes Christianity to these people. They have touched so many lives through this service that they are innumerable – both those who have served and those being served. 16. , President, Rotary Club of Waco on Fellow Rotarian Carroll W. Fadal “I have known Carroll Fadal for nearly 40 years when we were staffers at the WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD in the early ’70s. At that time I could have predicted that he would be successful in his professional and personal life. Carroll displayed then and now all the qualities possessed by good Rotarians: honesty, integrity, loyalty, and courage By his conduct and his character he embodies the Four-Way Test. Having served on the Board of Directors of the Waco Rotary Club for several years, I know how committed Carroll is to the ideals of Rotary. He has worked tirelessly to promote Rotary and all we stand for. I am proud to serve with him and heartily endorse him for the District Roll of Fame”.

18. Carole Davenport, President, Rotary Club of Corsicana on Fellow Rotarian Rob Glass “Rob embodies the tenets of Rotary in so many ways. First and foremost, he is not only service minded but has a real HEART for service as well. It’s one thing to go through the motions and participate, sometimes, begrudgingly, in club projects. Rob genuinely enjoys helping and serving those less fortunate. He draws great delight in it. Rob makes an annual mission trip to Haiti and visits a hospital that our club supports and speaks at a conference held there? This he does on his own nickel and of his own volition. He does this on top of ALL the club work he does for us INCLUDING serving as Assistant DG for the past two years and being a constant “rah-rah” guy for all District activities; appraising our club of opportunities and encouraging us to participate. I know the instructions for this section state that I am NOT to simply repeat what has been said earlier but this sort of SERVICE ABOVE SELF bears repeating. Rob is a fine Christian man whose morals, ethics and motives are above reproach. He’d be an excellent inductee to the Roll of Fame. I enthusiastically and without reservation submit his name for consideration.”

19. ROLL OF FAME 2010MIKE HELMICK ROTARY CLUB OF BASTROP COUNTY

Mark Sheffield, President, Rotary Club of Bastrop County on Fellow Rotarian Mike Helmick “Mike joined our Club in July of 2002 and immediately proved that he was an active participant, willing to help wherever help was needed. He also proved himself a leader by taking on various Club officer positions and chairing or co-chairing many of the Club’s activities and fundraisers. He definitely demonstrates our motto of “Service Above Self” as he never looks for personal recognition for his participation but only for recognition for the Club and the cause we are working on at the time. Mike brings a high level of integrity to all that he does. Much of our Club’s current success can, in some way, be tied to his influence. Mike applies the ideas of the Four-Way Test and Service Above Self not only in Rotary but in his community as well. He was President of the Bastrop County Historical Society and led a strong planning process which focused on supporting tourism in the community, increased diversity in membership and exhibits. He has been a board member, fundraiser, and classroom consultant for 8th through 12th grades of Junior Achievement in Central Texas and previously in Minneapolis. He spoke at the Roving Rotarians Motor Home Group when they came through Bastrop and told them the history of the Bastrop Community. He was chosen by the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce as “Man of the Year”. It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Bastrop County nominate Mike Helmick for the District 5870 Roll of Fame.”

Hamp Levi, President, Rotary Club of Austin Northeast on Fellow Rotarian Frank Ivy “Frank has a strong presence in our weekly meetings where he leads the club’s birthday fundraiser in honor of members with birthdays for that month. His warm, engaging personality brings energy and excitement to the birthday celebration. Over the past 10 years Frank has led the club in individual fundraising efforts. He has also been a consistent presence at board meetings where his insight and judgment is a valuable resource for our club leadership team. As far as Service Above Self, Frank continually finds a way to attend most of the club’s weekly meetings even when there are many Rotary clubs located much closer to his office. He not only attends most club socials, but has served as a host on several occasions.”

24. Sheryl Petition, President, Rotary Club of Austin–Lakeline Area on Fellow Rotarian Marilyn Johnson “Marilyn is the epitome of what a Rotarian is. She has participated in all fund raisers and most service projects. She attends all Rotary functions and training. We can always count on her eagerness to fill in where needed. The helpful advice, due to her experience, she brings to us is “invaluable”. She is a great example to follow.”

26. Trae Sutton, President, Rotary Club of Belton on Fellow Rotarian Susan Kamas “Susan Kamas is known for her visionary leadership and organizational skills. She is especially talented at matching people to tasks that challenge but do not overwhelm them. In all her actions and decisions, Susan exemplifies the principles of Rotary. Her day-to-day activities model the idea of service above self, and, through her example, she encourages those she encounters to work for the good of others. Susan’s high ethical standards are clearly reflected in her personal, professional, and community life. It is without a doubt that I can state, Susan applies the Four-Way Test not only in her Rotary duties, but also in her community support efforts. I have seen Susan make decisions that are for the good of all concerned; even if it might not be something that would have been her first choice personally. Additionally, Susan works tirelessly to improve the lives of others through her community and Rotary activities. In her current position as Executive Director for Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, Susan is able to provide positive influence to her employees, community leaders, educators and the general public about the value of international understanding, diversity, and goodwill.”

28. Bruce Golden, President, Rotary Club of Austin on Fellow Rotarian R. Victor Mathias “It is my honor to nominate Vic Mathias from The Rotary Club of Austin for the District Roll of Fame. I have known Vic for over twelve years and during that time, he has always been an active member of our club. He has held almost every position in our club from chairperson to President back in 1985. Yet, he still continues to serve currently as Service above Self Chair. He is always willing to do whatever you ask to get the job done. He is considered Mr. Ethics in our club as he has always been a leader, a good friend, fun-loving, humorous, active and polite. He is a true Rotarian.”

29. ROLL OF FAME 2010WILLIAM H. “BILL” MILLER ROTARY CLUB OF GEORGETOWN-SUN CITY

Lou Gibson, President, Rotary Club of Georgetown-Sun City on Fellow Rotarian William “Bill” Miller “Bill Miller has been an active member of the Georgetown-Sun City Rotary Club since transferring in April 1998. He has accepted assignments willingly and has advanced his club’s roll into numerous leadership positions as noted in the above write-up. His morals, ethics and daily actions truly reflect Rotary’s Four-Way Test. His dedicated leadership in our Club’s membership growth and increased Community and International out-reach is evidenced by the progress made over the past five years. He has and continues to mentor new members and has been instrumental in increasing the Sun City Club’s attendance and participation at District Assembly and District Conference meetings. During his year as Club President (2007-08), the Club became more involved with Out-Reach as illustrated by its support of three International grants, a local DAP matching grant, a major club-membership donation to PolioPlus, an increase to 83.6% in Sustaining Membership participation, an 8% increase in membership, an increase in Scholarship monies and initiated club member support of GISD homeless children project. His example year as president has served to fuel the plans and actions for the following years. His determination to establish a 501 (c) 3 tax status for the Sun City Rotary Club has served to greatly increase community and international out-reach. This increase has served to build comaraderie and team-work within club’s membership and to keep the Georgetown-Sun City Rotary Club on its path to becoming a truly great “Service Above Self” Club”.

32. Kay Landry, President, Rotary Club of Austin-Oak Hill on Fellow RotarianBrenda Osbon “Brenda Osbon gives new meaning to the word Rotarian when it comes to dedication and commitment. Since I have known Brenda for the last four years, she has always had a leadership position and has fulfilled the position beyond expectations. When she is in charge of a project, she does whatever job that needs to be done, no matter how big or how small. Her talents are many and she uses them to support the many projects of our Club. When funds are needed, Brenda is often the first to generously contribute to the cause. She is a bundle-of-energy and enthusiasm and never says the words, “It can’t be done”. Brenda is a person of vision. At the end of her presidency, she said, “I had so many goals I wanted to accomplish and didn’t.” The list of accomplishments with new projects, events, and celebrations was very long during Brenda’s year. She was the first to ask “What do you want me to do next year? I’m not going away.” And she didn’t—she has continued to serve with enthusiasm as a member of the Board, Social Chair providing many opportunities to share with members, Chair-Coach of the Komen Walk team raising nearly $1,000 and implemented a Coat Project with the West Rural Center for children in need. In addition to all that she has done for the Rotary Club of Austin-Oak Hill, she has contributed many hours to the work of District 5870. It is with great pleasure that I recommend Brenda Osbon for the Rotary Roll of Fame.”

33. ROLL OF FAME 2010AL ROLFSEN ROTARY CLUB OF CEDAR PARK

34. Jim Carssow, President, Rotary Club of Cedar Park on Fellow Rotarian Al Rolfsen “Al could be called “old faithful”. Since he joined the club, we can count on him for club leadership, attendance, fund raising, recruiting members and supporting members. His work in our club and his relationship with other members has been continuous and dependable. As President, Al achieved our best attendance at Assembly and District Conference. He attended several “Bi-District” conferences working with our brother club. When we joined with our brother club from Miguel Aleman, Mexico-Roma, Texas to raise money in July at the Chopper Festival, Al was there cooking and making sure our fellow Rotarians had places to sleep”. When we hosted the GSE team from Japan, he was there cooking fish and making sure our visitors felt at home. It is with pride that we recommend Al Rolfsen to the Roll of Fame. He is the example every club member should strive to be. He is Mr. Rotary in Cedar Park.”

35. ROLL OF FAME 2010STEVEN D. ROSS ROTARY CLUB OF SOUTH AUSTIN

Allison Batlin, President, Rotary Club of South Austin on Fellow Rotarian Steven Ross “Steve Ross has stepped up to the plate for Rotary over and over again, exemplifying all that Rotary stands for. Steve has consecutively hit home runs again and again for our club.  Last year, upon the completion of his year as president, he attended the Rotary International Conference…his 7th inning stretch.  What he learned and brought back to our club, gave us the winning spirit to take this year by storm.   His energy and positive drive has set a role model for all to follow.  His enthusiasm is contagious, swine flu dims in comparison. Steve is persistent yet cool under pressure.  He keeps his focus on the goal of giving.  Steve uses his vast talent as a lawyer to fine-tune and perfect what is good for Rotary.  Over and over, Steve has given both with time and financially for the betterment of Rotary.  Steve not only does the talk for Rotary, but the walk as well.  If others are too tired to walk, he will carry them with a smile. In short, Steve is our player of the year for the Roll of Fame”.

37. ROLL OF FAME 2010LYNN SIMPSON ROTARY CLUB OF MEXIA

38. Bill Wragge, President, Rotary Club of Mexia on Fellow Rotarian Lynn Simpson “Lynn Simpson transferred from the Rotary Club of Greater Big Spring to the Rotary Club of Mexia in 2004. Lynn brought with him a wealth of Rotary knowledge and experience that has be invaluable. His vast and varied Rotary experience began when he was a GSE Team Member in 1992 traveling to South Africa. This experience changed his life and every since he has been a dedicated and very active Rotarian. He has traveled extensively promoting and living Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self. As a very young Rotarian, he led a Friendship Exchange to South Africa, and in the same year traveled to Argentina to visit the Group Study Exchange Team. In 1996 Lynn made his first trip to Mexico that began a life-long humanitarian project. For the past 14 years Lynn has travelled to the remote village of Creel (Chihuahua) Mexico at least twice each year. He was instrumental in building and outfitting a kitchen and dormitory for approximately 100 Junior High and High School Students attending Rochivo School. And over the years with the help of fellow Rotarians he has furnished more than $24,000 of food, bed linen, blankets, school supplies, medicine and other essentials to the students of Rochivo School. He has made special trips at Christmas time to deliver food and gifts to the students. Lynn’s dedication to the Ideals of Rotary has also taken him to Rio de Janeiro to attend Rotary International President’s Conference in order to get a better of understanding of Rotary’s mission and programs. He is a student of Rotary, always learning, teaching and mentoring. He has hosted GSE Team Members, hosted Youth Exchange students, served as RYLA Counselor, and was instrumental in organizing a Rotoract Club at Howard College and an Interact Club in Wortham, Texas. Lynn is very generous with his time, but he is equally generous with his means. He personally funded a $1,000 scholarship to help an Argentina student attend the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater, Texas. A very strong supporter of The Rotary Foundation, Lynn is a Major Donor and Benefactor. Lynn Simpson lives Rotary in this daily life and is a true humanitarian. He is most strongly recommended to be inducted into District 5870’s Roll of Fame!”

40. Wilson Morris, President, Rotary Club of Georgetown on Fellow Rotarian Ronald Swain “I have known Dr. Swain for many years. Ron was President of our club when I joined Rotary for the first time five years ago. At my first Board meeting, which was a Red Badge requirement for me, I listened as Ron spoke of the intricacies of the necessary steps to obtain grant monies for our community. Ron was successful in getting grants for our club. This required many hours beyond our weekly meeting and the Board meetings. I also know Ron through our Church, the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown. Ron not only attends regularly, but also assists in the Service by taking the collections. He and his wife are active, contributing members of the Church and the community.”

41. ROLL OF FAME 2010LINDA K. WEBSTER ROTARY CLUB OF KILLEEN

42. Alberta Barrett, President, Rotary Club of Killeen on Fellow Rotarian Linda Webster “Linda is the ideal of a Rotarian. Her code of conduct is the same wherever she is; she lives the Four Way Test at home and at work. She is an advocate of the Soldier, and is dedicated to the Soldier’s welfare. She is likewise dedicated to the Object of Rotary, and to the Foundation, which is evidenced in her outstanding financial support of its programs. She not only participates faithfully in club activities, but also represents the club at District events, and encourages other members, especially new members, to participate as well. She serves the club well in the capacity she is asked to fill every year, and can be depended upon to contribute to the success of every project. She reminds us all why we are Rotarians, and is one of the best examples of Service Above Self among our members.”
