Interview!!! From: John Rodriguez, Fernando Vaquera, Jose Valdez, and Nahum Mendez
Three seniors that were soldiers at the time. • These three seniors were all in the Korean War. They had different parts to do. One worked in a repair ship and the last two were in the frontlines. It’s very hard to be in the frontlines as well in a ship. You need to watch your head and careful not to get shot at. The ship needs to be careful not to get close to any mines. Yes, it’s scary to be in war, but it’s to defend their and our country.
Ernesto Sanchez • He was one of the ones that was in the frontlines. Ernesto Sanchez was well armed, he carried three to four weapons. He was surrounded by his teammates, so he had a less chance to be killed. For fun, he paints and makes sculptures. He then enters them in contests at the Fine Arts Center in Laredo. He has gotten first place in many of these contests. One of them he had gotten offered a $1000 for a sculpture he had made, but he rejected the offer. Ernesto Sanchez has had many difficult experiences during the Korean War, but he has made it through all these difficulties. Good Job, Ernesto Sanchez!
Eduardo Sanchez • Eduardo Sanchez is the soldier that was in the repair ship. He cares very much about his friends and family members. His memories from the past has fascinated him very much. In the 1950s during the Korean War, a ship that was in front of his ship, there was a minesweeper, which stuck to the boat and KABOOM. He was sad that the boat exploded but, they found a few survivors on the ship. He was happy some were still alive, but not that happy. Eduardo Sanchez cares very much about his teammates. He is a person that probably doesn’t have any enemies. Congratulations Eduardo Sanchez!
Dave Leyendecker • Born in Laredo Texas, Dec. 13 1931, Leyendecker was a soldier that achieved the Sergeant ranks. He has won many medals. Also in the frontlines, he had a few battles in the front. An excellent job Dave Leyendecker did. He was in the Marines in his first year when the Korean War started, so he had some experience. He was already ready to go into battle once again. Awesome Job, Dave Leyendecker.
Excellent • Excellent jobs these three former soldiers did. They are three now that won’t be forgotten at all. Very good job, Ernesto and Eduardo Sanchez, and as well Dave Leyendecker. Just excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!
