Grant Purpose CASP • To provide effectiveagricultural support services, promote and facilitate agricultural development by targeting beneficiaries of land reform’s restitution and redistribution; and other black producers who have acquired land through private means and are engaged in value-adding enterprises domestically, or involved in export. ILIMA/LETSEMA • To assist vulnerable South African farming communities to achieve an increase in agricultural production and invest in infrastructure that unlocks agricultural production. i.e. Revitalization of irrigation schemes LAND CARE • To promote sustainable development and use of natural resources by engaging in the initiatives that supports the pillars of sustainability (social, economic and environmental) leading to greater productivity, food security, job creation and better well-being for all.

  4. Policy imperatives informing investments in 2016/17 • Create 1 million jobs (NDP: 2030 vision) • Put 1 million hectares of unutilised land under production by 2019 (FetsaTlala) • Support 300 000 smallholder producers by 2019 (NGP) • Expand 1.5 million hectares under irrigation by 500 000 (NDP: 2030 Vision) • Ensure food security for all (Constitutional Mandate) • Ensure sustainable use of natural resources • Grow agricultural contribution to the GDP - driven by the Revitalization of Agriculture and Agro-processing Value Chains (RAAVC)

KZN High Impact Programmes • The Province focuses on the following high impact programmes: • Makhathini cotton production. • Livestock programme (Small & Large stock). • Sugarcane Financially Distressed Farmers. • Communal Estates (Maize and Beans production). • Revitalization of Irrigation projects. • Food Security. • Extension Recovery Programme.

Makhathini Irrigation scheme(Ilima/letsema) • Install Subsurface drainage pipes covering 250ha and urgent repair of main irrigation canal – mainly concrete work, to prevent collapse of damaged sections of the Main Irrigation Canal, enabling irrigation of 2000ha. • Budget allocation of R 15 million, in the first quarter R 4.3 million has been spent on the contraction of surface drainage.

  18. State of readiness FetsaTlala • Picture of Maize and Beans show that the province has started planting under irrigation areas. • Currently planted 45ha of Maize and 30ha of Beans.
