The Great Plague • Doctors tried to protect themselves by wearing special clothes. • Victims were buried outside the city walls: • Great Pit at Aldgate in London • At Finsbury Fields. • The Lord Mayor of London ordered all the stray dogs and cats to be destroyed.
Consequences • About 20% of London's population died • nearly 100,000 people • About 40,000 dogs and 200,000 cats were killed
The Great Fire of London • September 2, 1666 • On Pudding Lane, in the bakeshop of Thomas Farynor • 8 o'clock in the morning, the fire had spread halfway across London Bridge. • The fire was too out of control to stop.
Consequenses • The loss of life was minimal • 80% of the city proper was destroyed • 13,000 houses • 89 churches • 52 Guild Halls • Homeless and financially ruined citizens • The plague diminished greatly
