The Chest Agreement Edinburgh University subscribe to the Eduserv Chest Agreement Site wide (University) licence for most Esri products New agreement since last year Provides access to more products Some limitations on number of users and credits but we are well within them Managed by Software Services in IS See: https://www.chest.ac.uk/esri.aspx (UofE subscribe to Option B)
Licensing Chest Deal includes: • ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) • ArcGIS Pro • ArcGIS Online (Including Story Maps) • City Engine • ArcGIS Enterprise • ArcGIS Developer accounts • Collector/Survey 123
Products ArcGIS Desktop is the ‘traditional’ ArcGIS software that includes ArcMap. ArcGIS Pro is a (relatively) new application that will replace ArcGIS Desktop. It has much the same functionality as ArcGIS Desktop plus added 3D capabilities. ArcGIS Online is a web only GIS application used to display and share data. Edinburgh University has an ArcGIS Online portal at: https://edinuniv.maps.arcgis.com City Engine is 3D modelling software for urban environments. ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Developer accounts are for setting up and developing server applications.
Current Licensing Options • Concurrent Use Licences – Available for ArcGIS Desktop, Pro and City Engine – run from a Licence Server. Also: • ArcGIS Desktop – can be licenced using an individual Single Use licence or a Student Evaluation licence • ArcGIS Pro can be licenced using a Single Use licence or using an Esri Named User through ArcGIS Online. • ArcGIS Online is licenced using an Esri Named User account that needs to be created on the Edinburgh University ArcGIS Online portal.
Named Users Created through ArcGIS Online by Administrators Gives access to ArcGIS Online (including Story Maps) Can also give access to Business Analyst, Spatial Insights, Community Analyst and ArcGIS Pro Allocated Credits (don’t worry, Ed Uni has lots!)
Training Your Esri Named User gives you access to all the Esri e-Learning courses and materials at: https://www.esri.com/training/ Except for Instructor-Led courses
Overseas Use • Overseas use (e.g. for field trips) is permitted. • Licences can be checked out by users if they are connected to a Licence Server for standalone use. • If you use ArcGIS Pro and Named Users, you can set up “offline access” • Use an Evaluation code that will give you access for 365 days – for ArcMap only.
Permitted Use Software can be used for both academic use and internal business use. However, It cannot be used for commercial purposes. If someone wants to use ArcGIS Online for internal business use then we have a special ArcGIS Online for Admin organization which can be accessed at: https://eduniv.maps.arcgis.com
Support University can have 4 technical contacts that can access Esri UK Support. IS Helpdesk GIS Support Officer/Local IT EDINA can help on projects, development, training etc. (but we do provide support on the use of Digimap and getting the data into ArcGIS)
ArcGIS Desktop to Pro Esri would like users to transition to Pro as soon as possible New developments are being done in Pro Integrates with other parts of the Esri Ecosystem better. Think about the Esri Platform as: Pro, Enterprise, Online and Mobile, working together Concurrent licencing will not be available in the next agreement
