  2. Capernaum was a home base for Jesus Stayed with Peter and family-Matt 8:13-16 Home base in someone’s house-Mark 2:1 Centurion’s servant healed there Matt 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10 Condemnation pronounced due to seeing miracles but not repenting-Matt 11:23; Luke10:15

  3. Centurion was a Roman officer over 100 men Considered to be the backbone of the Roman army Usually men of high morals and noble character- Matt 27:54; Acts 10:1,2

THE CENTURION WAS A MAN OF • SYMPATHY-loved his servant-wanted him healed; Matt 8:6; Luke 7:2,3 • BENEVOLENCE-Built Jews a synagogue-Luke 7:5; We are to be, too-Gal 6:10; Acts 11:27-30 • HUMILITY-Luke 7:6,7-sent elders-Luke 7:3; spoke well of him-v4,5-He did not feel worthy for Jesus to come to his house-Luke 7:7,8; opposite of Luke 18:9-14

  7. CONCLUSION His reward based on his faith-so will ours Great faith-great reward No faith-no reward Without faith, impossible to please God Cast into eternal hell
