  3. Centurion was a Roman officer over 100 men Considered to be the backbone of the Roman army Usually men of high morals and noble character- Matt 27:54; Acts 10:1,2

THE CENTURION WAS A MAN OF • SYMPATHY-loved his servant-wanted him healed; Matt 8:6; Luke 7:2,3 • BENEVOLENCE-Built Jews a synagogue-Luke 7:5; We are to be, too-Gal 6:10; Acts 11:27-30 • HUMILITY-Luke 7:6,7-sent elders-Luke 7:3; spoke well of him-v4,5-He did not feel worthy for Jesus to come to his house-Luke 7:7,8; opposite of Luke 18:9-14

FAITH- GREAT FAITH-Luke 7:9; Matt 8:10- 2 times said of people, both were Gentiles-Here and Matt 15:21-28 Faith in words of Jesus-Luke 7:6-8; Matt 8:8- Power in word of Jesus-John 12:48-We will be judged by it Baptism, Worship, Homosexuality Faith in his authority- Matt 8:9; Luke 7:8 Jesus has all authority-Matt 28:18; Eph 1:20- 23

  6. Jesus marvelled at his faith- 2 times said by Jesus-Matt 8:10; Jews unbelief-Mark 6:6-Had found none greater Predicted conversion of Gentiles- Matt 8:11,12; Eph. 2:14-16; Col. 2:14 Casting out of Jews-unbelievers

  7. CONCLUSION His reward based on his faith-so will ours Great faith-great reward No faith-no reward Without faith, impossible to please God Cast into eternal hell
