Basics of the Educational Partners Program • OLLI does not pay instructors; their participation is voluntary and a contribution of time and talent • Partner institutions provide free use of the college classrooms, lecture halls and laboratories • Since 1995 (OLLI at BCC was formerly the Berkshire Institute for Lifetime Learning) 172 members of the Williams faculty have taught for us individually or in teams • Bard College at Simon’s Rock is an “early” college accepting students after their second year in high school; faculty from Bard enjoy our mature, questioning and experienced students • MA College of Liberal Arts, our newest partner, is taking the first steps to integrate OLLI into the faculty perspective 5

Extending Partnerships through Video Conferencing We link geographic locations and Partner institutions through our video conferencing program Classes can originate in northern Berkshire County, for instance at MCLA, and be attended in real time in south county at BCC’s South County Center We are pioneering this effort in our area; and as more institutions acquire compatible equipment we will expand In our Fall 2009 Semester we have 37 registered for our course A Look at America’s Birth, 1775 to 1788 in central county and 20 registered for the course in south county 9
OLLI Contributions to Educational Partners 89% of OLLI at BCC’s 955 members have email connection with the OLLI Office If they choose to be on the distribution list, OLLI members receive email notification of events on partner campuses OLLI members attend these events in large numbers providing a full audience for distinguished speakers and other events hosted by the colleges We host an annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner for faculty who teach for us We give faculty a free Flex Pass that entitles them to attend six OLLI class sessions of their choosing 10

Cultural Partner Program AddedBenefits to OLLI at Berkshire Community College • Identity apart from the college, OLLI is recognized as a community with its own structure and leadership • Opportunities for our Cultural Partners to reach our members directly • Opportunities to provide classes in unique settings including the seldom seen Print Room at The Clark, and backstage and onstage at various theaters • Invitations to participate in cultural programming discussions throughout the area • Relationships that also benefit our Special Events and Distinguished Speaker Series
Opportunities for Less Formal Partnerships • Local non-profit organizations often receive educational grants to inform the community of their mission • Partnering with them can produce unusual and exciting class possibilities • OLLI at BCC Curriculum Council and Arts, Literature, Science and Social Science Curriculum Committee members are often also involved with these groups and seek such opportunities • These classes help both OLLI and the non-profit fulfill their missions • A major partnership for OLLI at BCC is with 3 local community cable access TV stations - we have received valuable volunteer training and the opportunity to air our classes to our members and the general public
