  2. Daily Schedule • Our Daily Schedule: • Students need to be in class by 8:45. After that point they are considered tardy. We highly recommend that they are in class by 8:30

  6. Absent/Tardy Policy • Please send in a note every time your child is absent. You can write it in the planner, but it is preferred if you write it on a separate piece of paper. • If your child goes to the Doctor please send in a Doctor’s note. • If your child arrives after 8:45, you must check in with the office before sending your child to class. • Please make sure you are walking in with your child after 8:45am.

  7. Cooperative Learning • Cooperative learning: • Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Each member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of achievement.

  8. Planner Policy • Planners are used as a communication tool for teachers and parents. This is where you can find info about the school, homework, calendar, etc. They must be signed every night in theReading sectionAND at the bottom.

  9. Homework • All students will have 30 minutes of Reading each night • Language Arts Passage Work will be sent home on Monday and should be returned on Monday. This passage should also be used for nightly fluency practice. • 1-2 Math sheets each night • There will be other activities/projects throughout the year as well

  10. Go Math • Our Math curriculum called Go Math. It is a program that goes along with the Florida Standards. It is based on 4 Critical Areas: • 1. Whole Number Operations: Develop understanding of multiplication and division strategies for basic multiplication facts within 100 • 2. Fractions: Develop understanding of fractions, especially unit fractions (fractions with a numerator 1) • 3. Measurement: Developing understanding of the structure of rectangular arrays and of area. • 4. Geometry: Describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes • For additional games and homework practice please go to • https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do. • Your child’s log-in information is inside their planner on a large sticker.

Language Arts • Cursive Handwriting practice (not graded) • Narrative Writing-personal experience and imaginative fiction • Expository/Informative • Response to Texts • Opinion Writing • Letter Writing • Poetry • Research • Instruction is designed month by month around a theme. The theme is addressed via integrated reading and writing experiences in all genres. The specific skills needed for an exemplary piece in each genre are scaffold across the school year, building one on the other over time.

  12. World Lab (Science/S.S) • Science Units- • Earth in Space and Time, Properties and Changes in Matter, Energy, Life Sciences, Science Fair and the Practice of Science • Social Studies Units- • Map Skills, Government, Economics

  13. Science Fair • Students will be participating in a Science Fair project that will be completed at school with their team. These projects will demonstrate their knowledge of the scientific method and scientific processes.

  14. Grading Scale A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 There will be at least 8 grades given per quarter in each subject.

  15. Grading Policy • Math Test = 60%, Quiz = 30%, Vocab = 10% • Language Arts Writing = 50%, Skill Work = 30%, Classwork= 20% • Social Studies Test = 70%, Vocab = 20%, Classwork = 10% • Science Test = 60%, Vocab = 15%, Quiz = 15%, Classwork = 10%

  16. Dividend (Volunteers) • Please go to the Seminole County website to sign up to volunteer in any capacity (www.scps.k12.fl.us) then click the tab on the left that says • “Dividends/School Volunteer”. • Once you sign up it takes at least 3 weeks to be approved. You must be approved at least 3 weeks before going on any field trips.

  17. Field Trips • We are hoping to go on 1 to 2 field trips (more information to come).

  18. Lunch Policies • Lunch is a different time on Wednesday (12:40-1:10) • Birthday treats need to be eaten at lunchtime. The treats need to be prepared ahead of time with necessary supplies (napkins or plates). Please do not send in a cake or cookie cake that the teacher has to cut. Cupcakes or cookies or any individual treat that a student can hand out themselves is preferred. • Siblings can not come to lunch.

  19. Classroom Celebrations • The students will have 3 parties a year (before Winter Break, Valentine’s Day, and End of the Year).

  20. Monday Folder • They must be signed each Monday after you have seen everything inside. This is where you will find important information from teachers and the school. • This is where you will find Report Cards/Progress Reports as well. They will receive a progress report and report card each quarter.
