Daniel Chapter 9“The Last Seven Years!” The Prophet Daniel’sFourth Vision. Daniel 9:1 “In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans.”
Daniels’ prayer for “his people” in exile. The Jews were in exile in Babylon since 605 BC This chapter begins with a long prayer of Daniel for forgiveness of the sins of Israel. He prays that the Jews may return to Jerusalem out of exile in Babylon. Then starting at verse 21 God sends the angel Gabriel to bring the answer to his prayer! The siege of Jerusalem 605 BC by Babylon The Jews are forced into exile in Babylon
9:2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplishseventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. 9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; 9:5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: 9:6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 9:7 O LORD, righteousness belongs to thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries where thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. 9:8 O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. 9:9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; 9:10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. 9:11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey your voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. 9:12 And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem. 9:13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth. 9:14 Therefore has the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he does: for we obeyed not his voice. 9:15 And now, O Lord our God, that has brought your people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and has gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly. 9:16 O LORD, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let your anger and your fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people are become a reproach to all that are about us. 9:17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause your face to shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. 9:18 O my God, incline your ear, and hear; open your eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by your name: for we do not present our supplications before you for our righteousnesses, but for your great mercies. 9:19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for your own sake, O my God: for your city and your people are called by your name. 9:20 And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
Gabriel appears after Daniel’s prayerDaniel Chapter 9:21 • The angel Gabriel appears here to tell Daniel when and how God will save"his people."Daniel says, • 21 "Yea, while I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the eveningoblation.“ * • (* offering or sacrifice)
The Man Gabriel Daniel Chapter 9:5,6 • "THE MAN GABRIEL"Gabriel is an Archangel, but Daniel calls him a man, as he obviously looked like a man to him. He had the appearance of a man. But Daniel knew he was a supernatural spiritual being. • "Whom I had seen in the beginning": As you will recall Gabriel appeared to him during his vision in Daniel Ch. 8, 14 years earlier. (Dan 8:15-19) • "Being caused to fly swiftly": • Angels can fly & Gabriel was "caused to fly swiftly"because he was on an urgent mission from God! — He had this amazing prophecy to give to Daniel. • "About the time of the evening oblation": “Oblation” means offering or sacrifice, and sometime in the evening, about the time the evening sacrifices were made in the temple, Gabriel came to Daniel. • Now Daniel was a long way from Jerusalem and the Temple had been destroyed nearly 50 years earlier, and there were no longer any animal sacrifices, but this was at the time that theyusedto offer them.
Gabriel tells how God will save His peopleDaniel Chapter 9:22 • 22. "And he informed me and talked with me and said, ‘O Daniel, I am now come forth to give you skill and understanding. • 23 At the beginning of your supplication (prayer) the commandment (order) came forth and I am come to show you, for you are greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter and consider the vision.’" • Daniel had been praying for God to forgive his people Israel, to release them from captivity, so that they could restore the Temple and the city of Jerusalem. • Here the Archangel Gabriel tells him when and how God is going to save them. • Note how God had already heard Daniel’s prayer at the beginning of Daniel’s 21 days lasting prayer.
God gives Daniel a message for us! Daniel Chapter 9 • God tried to help Daniel understand these prophecies He gave him, even though most of the time he wasn't able to. • He predicted the following historical facts literally hundreds, and thousands of years before they ever happened, • so Daniel didn't actually need to understand. • He just needed to put it on record, so thatwe who are living in the ENDTIME,would understand itNOWwhen the time has come. • It was all put on record forOUR sakes! • "Therefore understand the matter and consider the vision." • But it’s actually a message for us today! (Dan. 7:28, Dan 8:26-C, 27 & Daniel 12:4,8)
“70 WEEKS areplanned!” Daniel 9:24 • The actual prediction is at the end of the chapter, verses 24-27. Gabriel tells Daniel… • 24 "SEVENTY WEEKS are determined upon yourpeople and upon your holy city, • to finish the transgression, and to • make an end of sins, and to • bring in everlasting righteousness, • and to seal up the vision and prophecy, • and to anoint the most Holy." • This word "weeks" here in the King James Bible is translated from the Hebrew word “shabua", which literally means "seven". • Therefore a better translation of this would have been “70 seven's", instead of “70 weeks". In English we have a “dozen” for 12, and a “score” for 20, while Hebrew had a “shabuah” for 7.
70 "Shabuah" = 490 Years! • It's clear that God was not talking about actual weeks of 7 days, because if so, this entire prophecy would’ve already been fulfilled in 490 days! A little over one year later! But it obviously wasn't! • So you can’t possibly interpret it as days, as it takes hundreds of years! • And so 70 ‘weeks’ are 70 sevens of years! • Each “Shabuah" means a period of seven years. • Thus, 70 X 7 = 490 years. • 490 years are "determined upon yourpeople and upon your holy city." • God said that, within 490 yearsthe full history of "your peopleANDyour Holy City Jerusalem" will be completed, • and “the vision and prophecy” will be “sealed up”! –Totally fulfilled!
Who Are Daniel's "People & Holy City"? Daniel 9 • Daniel’s or ‘God’s people’ of today does not mean so-called fleshly “Israel” in Palestine or Brooklyn NYC, although these predictions have partly physical results, as Zionist Jews have physically founded a political Zionist "Israel" in 1948 and have captured the physical "holy city" Jerusalem in 1967…by violence! • They even plan to physically reconstruct a Jewish temple soon which seems to play a role in the prophecies, BUT… • The physical “Judeans”lost the kingdom of God, when they denied their Messiah! Since then the kingdom of Heaven is preached and Jesus said, "Therefore say I unto you, the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof“(Mat. 21:43) To fruitful Christians through Jesus! No matter if they are “Jews” or “Gentiles!” • (See our PPS: “The True Israel!”)
Daniel's people used to be "Israel", God's people of old..., but since then & now, Jesus' fruitful followers, even TODAY! WE are now Daniel's People & Holy City
“Everlasting Righteousness” - Daniel 9 • So, as far as the history of God's people and Jerusalemis concerned, there were “70 sevens”or 490 yearsordained to pass, "to… • “finish the transgression, …and to” • “make an end of sins, …and to…” • “bring ineverlasting righteousness, and to • “seal up the vision and prophecy and to” • “anoint the most Holy." • Jesus' death on the cross in 30 AD, “anointed the most Holy" and HE made that "end of sins" by His “atonement” or paying for our sins with His own blood! • When someone else pays your debt, there ISno more debt, whether you realise or believe it, or not! • HE brought “everlasting righteousness” …for those who believed in, and who received Jesus the Christ! • But it did not yet “finish the transgression” for the entire world!
"Everlasting righteousness" • And to "seal up the vision and prophecy" • For the entire world will only be fulfilled after the return of Jesus at the end of the Last 7 Years! • The Rock of Daniel 2 smashing the image of man's history atits feet, remember?
7 "Sevens" until Jerusalem was rebuilt. Daniel 9:25 • Gabriel continues to tell Daniel… • 25 “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment(order) to restore and to build Jerusalemunto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks (7)and threescore and two weeks (62): the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. • Several proclamations were made by Persian kings to release the Jews from captivity to let them return to Israel, but it didn’t happen until…
“The Going Forth of the Commandment.”Daniel 9:25 • In 453 B.C, Artaxerxes Longimanus, fifth king of the Medo-Persian Empire, (who ruled from 465 to 425 BC.) issued his famous decree or commandment to allow the Jews to go and rebuild Jerusalem and to fortify its walls. • 25 … from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to buildJerusalem, unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks(7) and threescore and two weeks (62): • 7+62=69 weeks
453BC — 7 X “Seven” 49 years until=404 BC • “the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.” • Nevertheless, by 444 B.C. still very little progress had been made. • Nehemiah, the king's Jewish cupbearer, upon hearing that the city and the walls were still in ruins, asked the king for permission to go to Jerusalem to personally direct the rebuilding. (SEE: Nehemiah 2, 5). • Because of his faith and perseverance he succeeded to rebuild the walls, even though he had much opposition in "troublous times", • By 404 BC the street and the walls of Jerusalem were finished! Exactly 7"sevens" or 49 years after the "going forth of the commandment!“ Wow! God’s Word is always true!
62 "SEVENS" until the “cut off”—The crucifixion of the MESSIAH! — JESUS! • The prophecy predicted that from the time of Artaxerxes' proclamation “unto Messiah the prince“ would be—how long? • "Seven weeks and three score and two weeks!" • TWO periods! One of 7 "sevens", that’s how long it took to rebuild Jerusalem 7x7= 49 years! • Plus another period of "three score and two weeks!" • A "score" is 20, so this is 3x20=60 + 2 = 62 sevens or 434 years! • 49 years plus 434 years makes 483 years. • From the "going forth of the commandment" in 453 B.C. this brings us exactly to 30 A.D., the very year when the Messiah was "cut off!"—The crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth!
69 weeks and one more? • “Know therefore & understand!“
Jesus born 4 BC? How can that be? • Although Jesus was 33 years old when He was "cut off", modern historians date the birth of Jesus at around the last part of 4 almost 3 B.C., and his crucifixion around April 30 A.D. • Because of a miscalculation of the Catholic monk Dionysius Exiguus, who in the 6th century AD devised our present calendar system, it started too late! So Christ was actually born 3-4 years B.C. — Before Christ! • Jesus began His ministry at 30 years of age (Lk. 3:23) in the year 27 A.D., and was crucified in 30 A.D. The 69 sevens or 483 years, give us the exact year of the Messiah's crucifixion.
Proof that Jesus was the Messiah. • 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off,… • Astounding! This was prophesied in 538 B.C., almost 600 years before Jesus the Messiah was crucified. • Nobody else fulfilled this prophecy in 30 AD, after ”62 weeks”, which provesthat Jesus was the Messiah! • But, this is merely oneof over 300 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus of Nazareth, written from 1500 to 400 years before He was born!
"But not for himself!" • 26 "Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself!" • If the Messiah was not killed for Himself, who was He killed for? Who did Jesus die for? Isaiah 53:8 prophesies: • "…He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken!” • Jesus died for His people…for us! Actually for the sins of the entire world! But they don’t accept His sacrifice! • When Jesus died on that cross, he finished the transgression, made and end of sins and made reconciliation for iniquity and He brought in everlasting righteousness through Salvation Rom 10:4 is the fulfillment of verse 24! • “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth!”
Why didn’t the Jews know? • The Jews certainly must have read this prophecy and knowing that Artaxerxes issued his commandment in 453 B.C. they should have been able to figure out approximately when their Messiah was due to come. At least the prophecy told them what time He was going to be "cut off" or die. So perhaps some of the wise ones didfigure it out and knew what time the Messiah was coming. Maybe that’s why the old woman Anna and the old prophet Simeon were expecting to see Him, because they knew he had to be born pretty soon if He was going to get crucified in 30 AD. They were waiting for Him, and got to see Him! (SEE: Luke 2:25-38) Even the Pharisees were asking John the Baptist, "are you the Messiah?" So they must have been expecting Him. But to most people the prophecies of Daniel were and still area closed book as "only the wise will understand" them. Perhaps the Lord chose the Word "shabuah" as otherwise people who were notsupposed to know, would have known when the Messiah was going to come. So for Jesus' safety did He keep it a bit of a mystery?
The "People of the Prince…“—The Romans! • 26 "and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” • After Jesus was "cut off", do you know what happened to "The city“ (Jerusalem) and the "the sanctuary" (Temple )? • Forty years later in 70 A.D., "the people of the prince that shall come“ — the Roman Legions — did come and burned Jerusalem and the Temple to the ground. • Because of the molten gold of the Temple ceiling they took it completely apart, stone by stone, so only the retaining wall of the Temple Mount—the wailing wall—was left over! • This fulfilled another prophecy of Jesus "that not one stone would be left standing upon another!" (Matthew 24:3)
70 AD Jerusalem Destroyed! Jews massacred. "And the end thereof shall be with a flood.” • General Vespasian killed over one million Jews were and 95,000 were taken away as slaves! • Whether or not you agree with our interpretation of times and weeks, etc., you cannot argue with the facts of fulfilled prophecy • .. that show that the Messiah would come before the destruction of the Templeand the city in 70 A.D.--40 years after Jesus' death!
But Seventy Weeks seal up the vision! Not 69! • Although Jesus accomplished all these promises in Himself, we as believers in Him do not fully possess them yet. • We have them now only by faith but will only possess them literally when Jesus returns when we get our new resurrection bodies. • The prophecy says that "seventy weeks (490 years! Notsixty-nine weeks or 483 years.) are determined upon your people…to seal up the vision and the prophecy." • To seal it up means to fulfil it, to completely finish the 490 years. So, there’s ONE more week left!
The Last Seven Years will end with Jesus’ 2nd Coming • So the last week, --the last seven years could only end with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to "bring in everlasting righteousness"
…including even the extra 30 days of God’s wrath until the Battle of Armageddon, which is the Third Coming of Jesus, still part of the seven years, when He puts an end to all the kingdoms of Man. But it will be primarily fulfilled upon God’s people at their Resurrection!
The AC, “The Prince of the Covenant!” • "And the people of the prince that shall come" • This prince is not Jesus, because this would happen after He was crucified, or “cut off.” • This prince is the Antichrist, also known as the "Prince of the Covenant!" (Dan 11:22) In God’s mind, the Roman Empire —the iron legs of Daniel's image — never ended, and the Antichrist will be the final Emperor of the Roman Empire! Remember Daniel 7:23, it would “devour the whole world and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces!”
The European Union is the NEW ROME! • As far as God is concerned the Beast of the Roman Empire did not completely expire on the date that historians say it officially "fell" in 476 A.D., • as the hegemony (rule) of Europe over the World was never broken or subjected by any other part of the Earth, even though the Turks tried real hard, but even they were also part of the original Roman Beast! • And thus it lasted all the way from ancient "Rome" up to present day "Rome", the European Union, clear up to the Antichrist, soon to be revealed!
He-the A.C.-shall confirm the Covenant! • Daniel 9:27 “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: • He—the Antichrist or AC—shall sign and confirm the Holy Covenant, some kind of peace treaty, with many — not just with the Jews, but with many! • Forone week or seven years. • The AC will internationaliseJerusalem and allow all religions equal access there, and permit the Jews … • to build their new temple to re-start their religion that was destroyed by God in 70 AD when Jerusalem was destroyed • And the Jews were scattered into all the world…
Christians have almost similar views on the “last 7 years” But the so-called “dispensational” view of 7 years of Tribulation, is incorrect!
He shall break the Covenant halfway! • Daniel 9:27 “…and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” • But in the middle of the week, after 3½ years he will cause the Jews' Daily Sacrifice and the Oblation, the offering to cease…to stop! And he will make it desolate, forsaken and empty, as he will abolish ALL religions and these abominations will spread all over the whole world!—Until the consummation, until the return of Christ!
7 Point Outline of the Last 7 Years! • Conifrmation of the Peace Treaty —The Covenant! • Jews start to rebuilt their temple & the Daily Sacrifice • AC breaks Covenant & halts the Daily Sacrifice • AC erects “Abomination of desolation” in the temple! • The Great tribulation begins, that will last 3½ years. • Jesus returns at the end of the last 7 years to save us! • The Battle of Armageddon begins until the Millennium starts!
Are you ready? Get ready Today! • We hope you received Jesus as the Messiah because we still have that 70-eth week to go, which, as we said, will end with the second coming of Jesus Christ—this time not as a sacrificial lamb, but as a roaring lion to take over the World and rule it "with a rod of iron." We hope you're ready! If not, just pray: • Dear Jesus, please come into my heart. Forgive me for my sins, and give me your free gift of eternal life! In Jesus’ name I pray! Thank you Jesus! • Next Feature: Daniel Chapter 11 with more and finer details about the Covenant, the Daily Sacrifice, the Abomination of Desolation and the political activities of the AC in the very last Endtime!
