Aim Established in 2014 to: • Improve data sharing in academia, research organizations, governments, businesses, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations → problem f.ex. multiple studies on some topics, missing on others, over-researching of vulnerable populations (cooperation with IG Ethics). → with the implementation of the SDGs in 2015, topic even more relevant – RDA Paris meeting “Data Poverty causes real poverty”, importance of capacity builiding

Activities 1 Establish RDA SDG working group: Following the RDA in Philadelphia a group of chairs (especially Anthony and Lindsay) have considered to establish an SDG WG across RDA with the aim of a) obtaining an overview of the IGs and WGs working on activities which directly or indirectly are of relevance to the SDGs and b) consolidate relevant data and information on SDGs within RDA → interest among chairs? How to proceed?

  4. Activities 2 • Improve access to research data infrastructure in the social sciences and training in data management and data analysis in Uganda exploring the possibilities of expanding these activities to other east African countries. → co-operation with RDA/CO-Data Summer schools?

WORKSHOP OF STAKEHOLDERS Held on: • 9th-13th APRIL, 2019 in Entebbe, Uganda Benefits: • Sharing experiences • Identifyingthe Data relatedneed (ie: Limited capacities in Data Management, Limited Data Sharing, Need forcollaboration) Strategic approachReached: • Optimal useofdata, • Applicationof FAIR dataprinciples • Formulationof a Network on Survey Data and Data Management in East Africa Formed a Network: • Involves 6 Ugandanuniversities, 2 Kenyan and 3 datasupportingorganisations) • An MoUfor Network partnershasbeendrafted

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL Will beheld: • 16- 27th September 2019- in Uganda International participant: • Will host morethan 60 peoplefrom Germany, and Africa Funding and organisers: • VWF grant GESIS and Mutesa I Royal University areleadingthe initiative (IG co-chairs Simone and Norman) → last part: capacitybuilding- January 2020
