Lecture 10: Galaxy Dynamics (part IV): ORBITS AND DISTRIBUTION FUNCTIONS

In this lecture, we explore various types of orbits in 3D and define distribution functions. We take a closer look at NGC 4565, an edge-on spiral galaxy, and examine tube orbits in a torus, triaxial ellipsoid, and box orbits. We also discuss chaotic tube, box, and orbits. Lastly, we explore the concept of stars in Phase Space and provide a preview of the next lecture on the Boltzmann Equation.
