THINGS GOD HATES PART 2
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. A Proud Look James 4:6, 10 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'' Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
A Lying Tongue A lie is not that bad of a sin, surely God will not punish me for that. Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Hands That Shed Innocent Blood Murder has been wrong since the beginning. I John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer. The Jews said a murderer is in danger of the judgment; Jesus said whoever is angry with his brother without cause is in danger of the judgment.
A Heart That Devises Wicked Plans You become what you think. Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Some think they can hide from God. God doesn’t know what I am thinking. Psalms 94:11 The Lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile. Hebrews 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Feet That Are Swift In Running To Evil There are some who want to be in the center of evil. As Christians we should not be that way. I Timothy 5:22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure. I Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil. Romans 12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Hate what is evil. Cling to what is good.
As Christians we should seek good things. Colossians 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. James 4:7-8 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
A False Witness Who Speaks Lies. We noticed last week that lying is wrong. Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, each one speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds. All liars will have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, Revelation 21:8.
Here God specifies a type of lie. A false-witness One who gives false testimony. It was false witnesses who testified against Jesus. There are some today who are giving false testimonies about the word of God. False-teachers I Timothy 4:1-2, 16 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
One Who Sows Discord Among Brethren I have strong feelings about this. There are some people whose only agenda is to cause problems. You don’t have to tell everything you know. God’s people are to be united. I Corinthians 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. This is hard to do when someone is trying to pit one against another. These people are Gossips Hypocrites
The church is a divine institution. Bought with the blood of Jesus Christ. Anyone who is guilty or had a part in sowing discord in the Lord’s church will be in real danger at the final judgment. Romans 1:28-32And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look A lying tongue Hands that shed innocent blood A heart that devises wicked plans Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies And one who sows discord among brethren. ARE YOU GUILTY OF ANY OF THESE SINS?
