The Foal’s First Spring By Emily Ferris
One cold December night a foal was born. He was shivering and wet. It was snowing and it was 10 degrees below zero. He took his first step 30 minutes after he was born.
A few weeks later it was the beginning of January. It was still snowing and it was 30 degrees outside.
He loved frolicking around in the snow. He sometimes ate the snow.
His first spring was coming up and he was really excited. His mother told him that the grass was delicious and the sun felt like heaven on her back.
His mom said, “Remember though, there are lots of flies flying around, and will bite you. If they do, swat them with you tail.”
Finally spring came! The little foal was so excited. He reared and bucked and galloped around the pasture as fast as his legs could go.
The little foal’s first spring was the best day he ever had.
