Evaluation Overview • Summative evaluation to measure the impact of SEC on participants (e.g., knowledge, attitude, behavior changes) • Formative/process evaluation to provide recommendations on improving program operations
Evaluation Methods • Pre- and Post-program surveys • Life Skills • Job Readiness, Computer Technology & SAMPRO • Focus groups • Facilitators • Students • Participation/Attendance • Facilitator feedback
SEC participants • 200 students participated in the program. • 159 students completed 7 or more sessions.
Evaluation Findings:Life Skills • Life Skills Survey focused on changes in: • Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior • Related to four targeted areas: • Abstinence • Condom use • Knowing your own HIV status • Knowing your partner’s HIV status

Evaluation Findings:Life Skills • Significant Changes in Knowledge • Increase in overall HIV knowledge (C1 & C2) • Significant Changes in Confidence • Refusing sex/Abstinence (for C2, change significant from July-April) • Condom use (C1 & C2) • Getting own HIV test results (for C1) • Knowing partner’s HIV status (for C2, change significant from July-April) • Significant Changes in Outcome Expectations • Using condoms (C2) • Knowing own HIV status (C1 & C2) • Knowing Partner’s HIV status (C2)
Evaluation Findings:Job Readiness Training • For both Cohort 1 and Cohort 2, • 92-93% of the students wrote a Curriculum Vita • 87-88% completed a cover letter • Job Shadowing Visits (# of students): • Cohort 1 • Swaziland International Trade Fair - 48 students • Manzini Industrial Training College - 39 students • Tums George Hotel & Swaziland Milling Company - 89 students • Cohort 2 • Tums George Hotel, Swaziland Milling Company and Manzini Industrial Training College - 98 students
Evaluation Findings:Student Ambassador • Community Outreach (# of students): • Cohort 1 • National UN Worlds AIDS Day - All • Mobile Testing Unit Community Outreach – 44 students • Manzini Youth Club Car Wash – 5 students • Opening of Children’s Health Clinic – 10 students • Cohort 2 • Schools Concert – 25 students
