Crafting the Lesson • Advertising: • is providing information • calling attention to a product or idea • making known something that you want to sell or promote a product, a service, or an idea. • Printed ads are found in newspapers and magazines. • Poster ads are placed in buses, subways, and trains. • Neon signs are scattered along downtown streets. • Billboards dot the landscape along our highways. • Commercials interrupt radio and television programming.
Crafting the Lesson(me) (we) • When you read an ad, ask questions: • Who is the target audience? • What is the purpose of the ad? • How are graphics used in the ad? Fonts? Composing Meaning(Two) • You will be paired with another student. • Each of you will be given a worksheet with four ads and a list of questions. • Each of you will ask a question and your partner will use the ad to answer it. (vice versa)
Composing Meaning (You) • You will be given the “Original Benjamin’s Calabash” ad. • You will use the ad to answer the questions.
