Urban Violence Surveillance in Colombia: Public Policy Development for Injury Prevention

This study presents a successful model in Colombia for monitoring external causes of mortality, focusing on homicides by city in 2004 and motorcyclist deaths from 1993 to 2004. The research highlights the importance of data standardization and validation, as well as the implementation of public policies and programs to prevent injuries. Key components include government involvement, inter-institutional coordination, and capacity building for effective decision-making and intervention strategies. Initiatives such as the Crime Surveillance System aim to enhance citizen safety and coexistence through data-driven approaches.
