  3. The GL Report Writer • Define and Execute Financial reports based on information in MFG/PRO General Ledger • Uses a separate database with account balance information • Like a spreadsheet, but different

  4. Features • Sophisticated Data Retrieval Capability • Analysis Codes for account grouping • Reusable Row and Column Definitions • Formula data calculations • Flexible output (File, Print, Batch reports)

  5. Analysis Codes • Retrieve data by • Entity • Account • Sub-account • Cost Center • Project • Can Create Hierarchies

  6. Row Groups • A set of specifications used to retrieve the lines of the report • A group can consist of many lines • Text • Data (Analysis Code or GL item(s) ) • Calculations

Row Group • Build three basic groups: Detailed Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, Income Statement • Naming Convention: TB, BS, or PL prefix • Use analysis codes on row lines • Copy row group and explode row lines for detailed support of summary numbers • Calculate ratios using statistical GL accounts

  8. Column Group • Focusing Unit by GL Element or Time • Columns by entity or cost center • Use relative periods + or – to run date • Beginning, Activity, Ending, Period, YTD • Format column and do not allow override at time of printing report

  10. Defining Reports • Matches row groups and column groups to create a report • Sets print parameters • Adds Titles, Headers, and Footers

  11. Running a Report • Output can be: • Printed • Sent to file (batched) • Exported to a ASCII file • Saved as a report image for use with the output manager

Running Report • Designed to run monthly reports by only changing the report name and period • Fix the report width to 225 for all reports • Run with save image= no, in order to prevent archiving to one time reports into the database. • Print to a printer setup using 60 lines per page • If using GUI interface, use BatchID to get 10x fold increase in report processing time.

  13. Output Manager • Reprint the report • Export to ASCII file • Filter output, for different versions of the same report • Archive and delete the image
