Indian Removal Act of 1830 The Federal Government, specifically Andrew Jackson, was given the power to pay Native Americans to move west Government and military officials were sent to force and travel with the Native Americans who had refused to leave The plan was to send them to the newly claimed “Indian Territory” which would later become modern-day Oklahoma The Native Americans and officials would take several different routes to their new homes. Each of these routes would become part of “The Trail of Tears”
